Leads a crew of workers engaged in operating equipment and performing maintenance work associated with various projects within an assigned division of the County.
• Leads a crew of workers in operating equipment and performing maintenance work associated with various projects within an assigned Department/Division of the County.
• Provides direction, training, and assistance to employees; coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes workload; makes work assignments and evaluates work; monitors status of work; and troubleshoots problem situations.
• Assists in ensuring adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations; and coordinates activities to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs; reports accidents, injuries, and other incidents.
• Assists in coordinating, prioritizing, and overseeing projects; reviews or issues work orders; assists in determining and coordinating necessary equipment, materials, and manpower to conduct projects; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; dispatches crew members, vehicles, or equipment to work sites as needed; reports damage/vandalism, potentially hazardous/dangerous situations, or other problems to supervisor; and responds to problems or emergency situations.
• Monitor work conducted by contractors; inspect work to ensure quality and compliance with the terms of contracts.
• Oversees and assists in performing various tasks involving water utilities maintenance and water distribution systems projects; coordinates and performs testing, maintenance, and repair of master meters and backflow prevention devices; coordinates maintenance, repair, and installation of water service lines/mains; replaces older/worn service lines with new upgraded service lines; installs, repairs, or replaces valves; restores roads, sidewalks, and other work sites to original condition after completion of work; coordinates installation of sample stations and flushing station.
• Responds to complaints and questions related to division activities; researches problems and provides information; and formulates and initiates the plan of action to correct problems/issues.
• Coordinates response to after-hours emergency calls when scheduled for on-call duty; coordinates repair of main/service breaks; evaluates service calls, determines amount of water loss, and determines needed manpower, equipment, parts, and materials; determines need to request location of utility services; flushes systems after repairs; and requests bacteria samples from laboratory.
• Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with division projects, which may include a utility truck/vehicle, trailer, bucket lift, backhoe, trackhoe, dump truck, pumper truck, front-end loader, bobcat, forklift, etc.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• One (1) year of related experience.
• Fingerprinting required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Require possession and maintenance of:
- Valid Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Asbestos Worker or Supervisor Certification within one (1) year of hire.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 2 Water Distribution Operator license.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805
