Advise clients on the experimental design of studies or clinical trial design ( e.g. sample size, randomisation scheme etc.)
Provide statistical analysis, reporting and interpretation of study results
Perform peer reviews for output appearing in regulatory files
Understand the background and statistical methods important for drug development
Use appropriate statistical methodology and software to carry out the above duties
Work in close consultation with professional statisticians
Become proficient in SAS programming, R, Statistica or Design Expert software
Learn the theory of new statistical methodology and how to apply it by collaborating with highly skilled statisticians and attending training courses
Experience the role of a statistical consultant, working closely with cross-functional teams to translate scientific or clinical problems into statistical ones
Gain industry knowledge in potentially a wide range of therapeutic areas, overseeing short-term or long-term projects that cover multiple GSK drugs
support the Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) of GSK R&D and product transition to Global Supply Chain (GSC).
support the Global Supply Chain (GSC) to upscale, improve and maintain current products and manufacturing processes
Learn the theory of new statistical methodology and how to apply it by attending training courses and collaborating with highly skilled statisticians. Some of these non-clinical methodologies are generally not taught in modern statistics courses (Design of Experiments /Statistical Process Control )
Become proficient in statistical programming ( SA S/ R ) and standard software packages ( Statistica / Design Expert )
Experience the role of a statistical consultant, working closely with cross-functional teams to translate scientific problems into statistical ones
Gain industry knowledge in potentially a wide range of therapeutic areas, overseeing short-term or long-term projects that cover multiple GSK drugs
Work in close consultation with professional statisticians
Present and report statistical results to clients
Building predictive translational models to quantify the relationship between endpoints, which we call “golden threads”
Provide statistical support for clinical biomarkers
Get exposure to drug discovery and development process and matrix working environment
Partner with senior statisticians in preparing the analysis plan, building the models, QCing the output, compiling and presenting the results to scientists
Get hands on experiences in doing statistical analyses and modelling in R with advanced methodologies including nonlinear models, statistical learning methods and Bayesian methods
Access to various internal trainings on advanced statistical topics including Quantitative Decision Making, Bayesian Dynamic Borrowing, Dose Response Modelling, etc
A salary of £21,400 plus a bonus ( Stevenage and Ware ) or a salary of £23,400 plus a bonus (GSK House)

Education required: To apply for this placement, you must be:
Currently studying an Undergraduate Degree in either statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, engineering or other subject with a substantial quantitative component.
Other requirements: You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) university for the duration of your placement.
If you have already graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and are currently studying a postgraduate Masters, you are not eligible for this programme.
Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English
Expected Start date: September 2024
Duration: 1 year (approximately)

Role 1. Statistician (SPC, Oncology, EDS) – Stevenage and GSK House

GSK are looking for students with strong mathematical/statistical skills, keen to experience the role of a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry. Statisticians working in our Biostatistics department are invaluable contributors throughout drug development and supply, supporting scientists and clinicians in the areas of medicine discovery, design and analysis of clinical trials, as well as non-clinical activities ensuring the quality and safety of products delivered to patients. We offer industrial placement opportunities in both clinical and non-clinical statistics groups. During your year at GSK you will have clear responsibilities and receive training to improve both your technical and personal skills.
