      The Deputy Director of Aging is a professional administrative position that assists the Director of Aging with comprehensive planning, oversight and coordination of agency’s programs and services. The Deputy Director will analyze, plan, coordinate, and oversee programming and services, communication and marketing, program development; ensure adherence to contractual requirements and overall compliance with local, state and federal funding sources. The Deputy Director will oversee the development and monitoring of the agency’s strategic plan, identifies funding opportunities for new and continued programs and enhance partnerships by promoting departmental goals and initiatives. Additionally this position will represent the Director as requested within Sedgwick County Government and represents the department at various local, regional, and statewide meetings.

      Oversee internal programs

      • Supervise, evaluate and support the Unit Directors including Mill Levy and Mobility, Information and Community Services, Assessment and In-home Services.
      • Oversee the program budgets/expenditures, reporting, program development as needed, program utilization, planning and adherence to contractual requirements or local state or federal policy/regulations.
      • Inform Director of issues or concerns regarding current programming, program status, budget and the like.
      • Provide oversight and support to all staff, including training, supervision, staffing issues, programming, and promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.

      Develop and coordinate future planning for the organization

      • Research and analyze data to determine possible new programming and direct the initiatives around topics that emerge within the field of aging to reach, educate or serve more people.
      • Provide technical assistance to staff who are responsible for the implementation of new programs/services.
      • Ensure coordinated activities meet funding guidelines and are adequately funded to serve the needs of the agency and those served.
      • Take a lead role in development, monitoring and implementation of the strategic plan for the agency and ensure that it aligns with the goals and objectives of the organization.

      Develop and promote the organization

      • Oversee Marketing activities, marketing messaging, social media, website, coordinate media communication, provide technical assistance and approve education and outreach plans/timeline (ads, brochures, flyers, presentations…) to ensure consistent messaging and to build and advance the agency brand and community knowledge about the agency.
      • Coordinate and collaborate with other community organizations, governmental agencies, and service providers to develop or enhance relationships, increase awareness of this agency and aging services and improve the delivery of services to older adults and caregivers in the community.

      Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in gerontology, public administration, social work, human services or related field. Five years of work experience in the field of aging, disability or human services. Three years of supervision. Three years managing multiple programs.

      Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in gerontology, public administration, social work, human services, or related field. Three years of management level experience in in the field of aging, disability or human services. Five years of supervision and five years of managing multiple federal, state or grant funded programs.
