About the National Network of Abortion Funds:
The National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) builds power with members to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersections of racial, economic and reproductive justice. Together with our members, we advocate for cultural and political change to ensure access for people who face the greatest obstacles to abortion access: people with lower income, people of color, young people, and transgender and gender nonconforming people.
This is an exciting time for NNAF as we grow, nurture new funds emerging in underserved areas, and deepen our support for funds working within the reproductive justice framework. We are working to make access to abortion a reality for everyone, no matter their resources. We are building a movement, mentoring young leaders, and working toward a world in which everyone can shape their own futures and families. We invite you to join us as the newest member of our dedicated and growing team at a time when we are explicitly focused on scaling our network and building the infrastructure of abortion funds to be fully staffed organizations with robust abortion funding budgets.
NNAF is a multi-racial, multi-religious, gender expansive staff of about 70, located across the United States. We know how important it is to support our remote staff to maintain connection and cohesiveness as a team. To this end, we ensure weekly one-on-one supervision, face-to-face virtual staff meetings, quarterly in-person meetings, and more. Read more about us here .
About the Opportunity:
The Deputy Director of Development (DDD) will join the Executive team at NNAF as an important voice and contributor for the organization’s ongoing mission to best serve the funds in our network. The last several years have brought in a high volume of donations and grants to the organization, driven by the ongoing threat of dwindling access to abortion, and the DDD will be responsible for developing a strategy to engage, develop, and maintain those donors, sustaining NNAF in the long term.
The Deputy Director of Development will inherit an engaged and motivated team, and will report directly to the Executive Director. Our ideal candidate will bring strong experience in fundraising, including the systems and processes required to maintain an active donor and funder base. This person will also bring a demonstrated alignment with NNAF’s mission and values , and develop a strategy to engage donors as active and critical members of our movement as well as think strategically about redistribution of funds in a partnered way. This role is an opportunity for a generalist, a leader who is well-versed in both institutional and individual fundraising streams and strategies.
Areas of Leadership:
Executive & Organizational Leadership: In partnership with the executive team and development staff, define development goals for the next iteration of NNAF’s evolution and growth in the areas of donor engagement, philanthropic engagement, and development operations, as well as overarching development strategy. Engage in long range planning, in partnership with finance and programs (including 3/5/10 year forecasting). Promote and advance strong communication within and among teams. Act as advisor, mentor, strategist, and thought partner to the network’s funds, providing technical expertise and support around fundraising.
Development as Movement Building: As a key member of the Executive team, make NNAF a political home to new and existing donors and funding partners. Ens ure strong stewardship of donations and grants, in partnership with finance and program. Design, define, and implement the strategy to distribute to funds, in balance with resourcing internally at NNAF. Assess and evaluate the current state of fundraising at NNAF, in order to inform goals for the future state. Position development as another strategy for organizing and movement building, both internally and externally. Evaluate systems and processes, including internal tracking and donor stewardship, to engage, develop, and retain donors.
Team Leadership: Build upon and develop the skills and capacity of the development team, including existing leadership, with an eye toward developing individual members of the team, the team as a whole, and system and process optimization. Assess and evaluate the current structure of the team, and adjust as necessary to ensure that development’s strategy maps directly onto overall organizational strategy.
Compensation:
Salary & Benefits: $165,000 - $185,000. Best in Class benefits package currently including 100% employer paid health insurance plus 50% for dependents/families, a 5% employer retirement match, 32-hour work weeks, 3 weeks vacation, 13 holidays, generous sick time, and a commitment to professional development.
