      The Role

      We are seeking a talented Design System Engineer to own and evolve our company-wide design system. This individual will ensure a cohesive, scalable, and accessible experience across Merchant Growth’s digital products and they will collaborate closely with product and development teams to define, build, and maintain reusable UI components, design tokens, and system documentation that reinforce our brand and design language.



      Main Functions

      • Build, maintain, and document a library of reusable UI components using React (TypeScript) and Material UI.
      • Create and refine wireframes, prototypes, and design concepts in Figma, then translate them into polished, pixel-perfect UI components. Create and maintain a consistent design system with reusable and accessible components that meet WCAG accessibility standards.
      • Establish, manage, and evolve design tokens, theming structures, and other system foundations that ensure brand consistency across multiple products.
      • Collaborate closely with product managers and developers to refine user flows and align UI with business and user needs.
      • Develop clear, comprehensive documentation, including usage guidelines, component specifications, accessibility notes, and example implementations to support consistent adoption across teams.
      • Maintain cross-browser and cross-device compatibility within the component library to ensure high-quality, consistent user experiences.
      • Contribute to internal tooling, automation, and CI/CD processes that improve the scalability, reliability, and testing of design system assets.
      • Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and design reviews, providing design system expertise.
      • Stay current with design system methodologies, React/Material UI best practices , accessibility standards, and design tooling trends to ensure the system remains modern, efficient, and forward-looking.



      About You

      • 5+ years of experience as a Design System Engineer, Frontend Engineer, UI Engineer, or a similar role with substantial involvement in component library or design system development.
      • Strong expertise in React (TypeScript), component-driven architecture, and UI frameworks (Material UI or similar).
      • Proficiency with Figma with the ability to interpret design specifications and translate them into maintainable, scalable components.
      • Strong understanding of accessibility (WCAG compliance), responsive design, and usability best practices.
      • Experience creating and maintaining design systems, including establishing and evolving design tokens, component standards, and documentation practices.
      • Familiarity with state management basics (e.g., React Context, lightweight Redux/Recoil usage) to support UI component needs.
      • Knowledge of cross-browser/device testing and performance optimization for smooth user experiences.
      • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work closely with designers, developers, and product managers in Agile teams.
      • Ability to work independently, take ownership of system architecture and component quality, and iterate quickly based on feedback.
      • Enthusiasm for design system best practices, frontend performance optimization, accessible design, and emerging UI technologies.



      Other assets:

      • Familiarity with React Native design patterns for mobile-first experiences.
      • Understanding of design tokens and modern theming approaches for consistent brand implementation.
      • Experience with motion design and creating engaging micro-interactions to improve product usability and delight.
      • Awareness of backend concepts (.NET, APIs) to better understand system constraints, though not a core requirement of the role.
