      Detection Engineer, Mid

      Key Role:
      Play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced detection mechanisms to identify and respond to cyber threats. Work closely with clients to fortify our defense mechanisms and safeguard our clients' digital assets. Build security detections and detection frameworks. Perform adversary emulation activities to identify detection gaps in the environment. Research emerging adversary techniques and tooling, using the knowledge gained to build novel detections. Engage with owners of high-risk systems and services to identify and prioritize detection gaps. Investigate anomalous or suspicious behavior in the environment as it is identified in the detection engineering process. Develop and maintain cutting-edge threat detection and prevention systems. Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to understand the latest threats and vulnerabilities. Utilize data analytics and machine learning to create anomaly detection algorithms. Implement and fine-tune intrusion detection systems (IDS) and intrusion prevention systems (IPS). Monitor network and system logs for unusual activities. Continuously improve and update detection rules and policies. Collaborate with the security operations center (SOC) to enhance threat detection capabilities. Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity trends, techniques, and threat vectors.

      Basic Qualifications:

      • Experience with Python, PowerShell, Go, C/C++, Rust, YAML, or YARA

      • Experience with Sigma, including Platform agnostic detections

      • Experience with operating system internals for Windows, Linux, or macOS

      • Experience with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems

      • Knowledge of threat intelligence feeds and cyber threat landscape

      • Ability to obtain a security clearance

      • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Security or 3+ years of experience with security researching, performing, or detecting tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) in lieu of a degree


      Additional Qualifications:

      • Experience with AWS, Azure, Carbon Black Cloud, GCP, PowerShell, Sysmon, Windows Event Logs, or Zeek and Zeek scripting

      • Experience with vulnerability research and exploit development

      • Experience with offensive security frameworks and tooling

      • Experience with malware analysis and memory forensics

      • Experience with modern security information and event management (SIEM) systems

      • Knowledge of Proof of Concept creation for detection

      • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and security implications of hybrid environments

      • Knowledge of network protocols, security tools, and intrusion detection systems

      • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new environments

      • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

      Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $65,300.00 to $149,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
