      Job Description

      The Development Officer, Major Gifts, supports the engagement of the highest-level donors to Lurie Children’s Hospital by supporting the work of the Major Gifts Department with the strategic, operational, and project-based aspects of engaging major and principal gift prospects. The role includes other duties, from time to time, associated with the productive functioning of a hybrid-office. The role of Development Officer, Major Gifts plays an important role in administratively and strategically supporting the engagement of high-level donors to Lurie Children’s Hospital.

      Essential Job Functions:

      • Support the implementation and execution of specific donor-strategies, defined by the Assistant Vice President(s), Major Gifts, for major and principal gift prospects. These donor strategies often involve timelines that span months, if not years, and include various touchpoints, meetings, engagement opportunities and reporting that are carefully sequenced and require seamless execution.
      • Support the gathering and organization of various data and financial information that will inform donor engagement strategies and tactics. This involves successful collaboration and clear communication with colleagues across departments, including Finance teams Information Strategy and Donor Relations, among others.
      • Oversee and execute logistics related to various on-site and off-site donor and team events and meetings. These other Departmental meetings may include, but are not limited to, scheduling, agenda development and minutes for departmental or Medical Center liaison meetings, team meetings, and cross collaborative brainstorming meetings.
      • Actively manage calendars of the Assistant Vice President(s), Major Gifts and support Major Gift Officer colleagues in preparing for significant external and internal meetings. This person will support the scheduling of participants, logistical details and the preparation of donor materials.
      • Provide event support for donor cultivation and Major Gift program platforms such as Innovators, Florida Programming, division specific cultivation events, and campaign events. This support could range from logistical planning to on-site execution. List pulls, invitations, expense tracking and budgeting, strategy brainstorm, travel coordination and vendor coordination may be required.
      • The role may also include other event-related duties for strategies that involve cultivation and stewardship of donors via small events. This individual may be called on to provide logistical support, be available for occasional evening events, and be a part of the event management and execution team.
      • Participate in the development of donor materials. This includes assisting with the project management request form and working with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure timely development of materials.
      • Support the development of naming and gift agreement templates when required and ensure timely submission of finance and donor relations related paperwork.
      • Compose and prepare routine correspondence and presentations from draft format, including writing and/or editing proposals and various types of correspondence that optimally and creatively present an appealing case for Lurie Children’s.
      • A customer service focused individual who provides a reliable and responsive point person for a team often in the field. Place a high priority on serving internal and external contacts in a timely, courteous manner, following up until needs are met.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience, required.
      • Two plus years of experience in a professional office setting, preferably with some exposure to fundraising.
      • The Development Officer, Major Gifts also should have qualities of integrity, industry, and curiosity.
      • Experience with database management.
      • Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information and keep accurate records.
      • Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented team environment.
      • Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects under demanding deadlines.
      • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as creativity and resourcefulness.
