      Utica Park Clinic - Hepatobiliary and Surgical Oncology

      Full Time Registered Dietitian

      The UPC Hepatobiliary and Surgical Oncology department is currently looking for a member to join our team! The Registered Dietician (RD) will perform nutritional assessments, dietary planning/modification, as well as evaluating progress toward the nutrition goals for the patient. The successful RD will function in support of the oncology service line and will initially focus on Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Medical Oncology patients. This position will be in the clinic but will also provide some inpatient planning for the Hepatobiliary patients. We commonly manage patients who are suffering from cancer-related cachexia, pancreatic insufficiency, protein-calorie malnutrition, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, refeeding syndrome, and gut failure. Many of our patients will require nourishment via enteric feeding tubes or parenteral nutrition support. The RD will collaborate with clinicians to continuously assess patient nutrition needs. The RD will provide patient education, and individualize the diet and nutrition support plan in collaboration with the patient’s care team. The RD will deliver services in a clinically appropriate manner and in compliance with the overall patient care plan. Our team is multi-disciplinary, and we are seeking an RD collaborator who will work well in an integrated care environment to seamlessly assess and optimize patients’ nutrition support needs.

      Responsibilities

      The ideal team member will:

      • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to apply principles of dietary management for the patient with pancreatic, hepatic, gastroesophageal, and other malignancies, post-pancreatectomy diabetes, diabetes in the setting of parenteral nutritional support, diabetes with use of insulin pumps, metabolic syndrome, chronic pancreatitis, and post-bariatric nutritional deficiency.
      • Implement nutrition screening system for cancer patients undergoing active cancer treatment.
      • Provide individualized nutrition assessments, counseling and nutrition recommendations based on patients’ specific therapies and nutrition needs.
      • Recommend changes in therapy and medication, monitor response to those changes and collaboratively manage together with the patient’s physician and clinical team.
      • Teach patients lifestyle modifications and counsel on therapies effectively with positive results.
      • Provide ongoing nutrition classes for patients and in services for staff addressing nutrition topics and research pertinent to cancer patients.
      • Collaborate with other health professionals, as appropriate, and develop nutrition education and resource materials, as needed. Deliver presentations for private and public groups on nutrition as related to oncologic care.
      • Assist in the development of new programs, working with the multi-disciplinary team.
      • Pursue ongoing professional development through continuous education pertinent to the HPB and oncology practice areas.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Solid knowledge of clinical nutrition with emphasis on nutrition needs of cancer patients.
      • Excellent counseling skills and the ability to relate to a multi-ethnic community and varied learning levels.
      • Ability and interest in developing and implementing nutrition education programs, developing tools to measure needs of patients and quality of services.
      • Strong people skills to establish productive working relationships with multidisciplinary team providing patients comprehensive care and with support of service departments.
      • Basic working knowledge of computer usage in the workplace and good verbal/writing skills.

      Qualifications

      What You'll Bring

      • Bachelor’s degree required
      • Oklahoma Dietician license required
      • Registered Dietician from the Commission on Dietetic Registration
      • 3+ years of RD experience preferred
      • Current BLS required
