The Healthcare Systems and Technologies (HST) segment is comprised of the Patient Support Systems, Global Surgical Solutions, Care Communications and Front Line Care divisions. Patient Support Systems and Global Surgical Solutions focuses on med-surg and specialty bed systems and surfaces, safe patient handling equipment and mobility solutions. The Care Communications platform delivers software and information technologies to improve care and deliver actionable insights to caregivers and patients. We also innovate and sell products that improve safety and efficiency in the surgical space, including tables, lights, pendants, positioning devices and other accessories. Front Line Care provides connected monitoring, intelligent diagnostic and respiratory health solutions including a full range of vital signs, diagnostic cardiology, vision care, physical assessment devices.

      Baxter’s Healthcare Systems and Technologies (HST) segment is a $3B business globally and is expected to play a major role in Baxter’s growth over the coming years, with significant investments being made internally and inorganically. This role will be focused on developing and supporting the inorganic growth of the business where there are significant opportunities to expand Baxter’s portfolio and drive profitable global growth. In addition, this role will be a key player in supporting the segment and divisional strategy teams on setting the future direction of the business.

      As the Director, Business Development, HST you will be responsible for key components of the HST strategy, deal origination and deal execution process. This person will be a key contributor on setting the inorganic strategic direction of the business, identifying attractive segments and targets, developing relationships with outside parties, facilitating Merger and Acquisition and Venture Capital deals, leading due diligence teams and supporting integration planning.

      Bring your positivity, self-starting, agile strategic thinking and passion for M&A to inorganically expand our HST business. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, business unit and corporate leadership to assess market needs and opportunities, identify target companies for acquisition or investment, develop relationships with target leadership and execute transactions to drive the growth of our global business.

      What You’ll Be Doing:

      • Facilitate strategic market assessments and sourcing activities to identify new market opportunities and target companies to build Merger and Acquisition and investment pipelines across the HST segment

      • Partner with segment/divisional global marketing and product teams to identify and prioritize key inorganic focus areas for HST

      • Cultivate relationships with target company executives and health care industry experts including investment bankers, private equity and venture capital investors and strategy consultants

      • Monitor key industry trends and deal activity to inform strategic direction and identify growth opportunities for the business

      • Lead cross functional due diligence teams including engagement with key internal stakeholders to identify key risk and opportunities and ensure timely completion of transaction processes

      • Collaborate with financial stakeholders and Corporate Development partners to develop financial and valuation models

      • Lead transaction engagement and execution in concert with Corporate Development and legal teams including deal negotiation

      • Support internal approval processes including drafting of strategic market assessments, investment memos, diligence report outs and integration planning documents

      • Facilitate integration planning activities in collaboration with the Integration Management Office ensuring clean transition of executed deals to the integration execution team

      • Monitor and report on deal performance and investment progress for closed transactions

      • Travel an average 25% of the time depending on organizational needs

      Your Team:

      As the Director, Business Development, HST, you will report to the Senior Director Business Development, HST. You will be an individual contributor (no direct reports).

      Your Location:

      The role is located at our global corporate headquarters in the greater Chicago, IL area northern suburb of Deerfield. Alternatively, the role can be located in beautiful upstate New York in a bedroom community outside of Syracuse, Skaneateles Falls, home of our Front Line Care Division within HST. Consideration will also be given to remote work from a US location.

      What You’ll Bring:

      • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred

      • 8 - 10 years corporate/business development/M&A, strategy, investment banking or private equity/venture capital experience

      • Medical technology, digital health or pharma industry experience preferred

      • Demonstrated success in leading due diligence activities and cross functional teams to meet or exceed targets

      • Strong business and financial acumen including in-depth understanding of M&A and venture capital modeling and forecasting

      • Familiarity with key M&A legal terms and documents

      • Proven ability to understand business landscape, business strategies, technologies, evidence generation, and market needs

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including significant experience presenting complex business cases to senior cross-functional audiences and executive committees, a must

      • Experience and skilled at framing and guiding strategic problem solving to inform decision-making, leveraging hypotheses generations, secondary data analyses and other analytical tools to solve complex business problems.

      • Ability to lead and influence in a matrixed environment

      • Results driven, highly accountable

      • Familiarity with negotiation in the context of M&A

      • Ability to develop junior team members & build top-performing teams

      • Comfortable/thrives in ambiguous/rapidly evolving situations managing multiple highly visible projects

      We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $176,000 to $264,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and/or long-term incentive.
