      Director of Communications, Advancement

      The University of Alabama at Birmingham

      The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Director of Communications to develop and implement a consistent internal and external communications strategy for the Office of Advancement. This position will oversee a broad range of marketing and communications and serve as the Advancement liaison to other communications departments on campus. The Director is responsible for integrated Advancement communications, coordinating efforts between internal units such as Development, Alumni, Annual Giving, Planned Giving, and Events.

      Key Duties, Primary Responsibilities:

      • Collaborates with Advancement leadership to promote and support philanthropic initiatives through effective communications with key constituents
      • Directs and manages advancement communication efforts, including overseeing the development of print and digital fundraising materials, proposals, web content, newsletters, invitations, annual reports, presentations, and social media graphics
      • Serves as the marketing and communications liaison to other campus communicators and the Office of Marketing and Communications
      • Serves as lead editor and proofreader for internal and external communications
      • Researches and writes for the department as needed
      • Responsible for developing and tracking relevant metrics and ensuring communication pieces are entered into CRM
      • Other duties as assigned

      This position will report to the Senior Director of Communications - Advancement.

      Annual Salary Range: $63,875 - $90,000

      • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field
      • 7 years of related experience
      • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills
      • Ability to prioritize tasks, adjust priorities as needed, and monitor and maintain multiple tasks simultaneously with quick turnaround

      Preferred Additional Qualifications:

      • Microsoft Word and Excel
      • Basic graphic design software knowledge
