      This is an executive level position which reports to the City Manager or his designee and is responsible for directing, managing, planning and administering all departmental activities including residential waste collection, recycling, and special collection services.
      Administers and supervises individuals engaged in the preparation of cost and operational reports and compiles budget estimates for review and approval by appropriate City authorities. Ensures that waste disposal activities are in compliance with public health and environmental laws and regulations. Ensures the preparation of records and reports on disposal activities such as the quantities of waste handled; negotiates wastes disposal fees with other disposal facilities; recommends amount of fees to be levied. Responds to citizens’ complaints regarding abandoned vehicles, solid waste or garbage collections. Coordinates the preparation of handbills or public information materials to keep the public abreast of changes in regulations. Prepares the departmental budget, attends meetings representing the City on matters concerning solid waste or refuse issues. Performs related duties as required.
      Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Business or Public Administration, or a related field and extensive eight (8) years supervisory experience in governmental operations. Master’s degree preferred

      An equivalent combination of training and experience beyond a Bachelor’s degree in an aforementioned or closely related field.

Official/unofficial transcripts are also accepted. I f submitting transcripts, transcripts must include the following: student's name, school name, number of credits, degree completion, and major. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.

      Foreign diplomas/degrees must be submitted with a credential evaluation report from an approved credential evaluation agency*.Translations of diploma/degrees are not accepted. If degree/diploma does not reflect the academic major on its face, transcripts indicating degree completion must be submitted. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.

      *Approved Credential Evaluation Agencies:

      Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by:

      An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR

      • A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES),OR
      • A current member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE),OR
      • A recognized Professional Organization
