      The Director of Campus Services is responsible for managing the department’s day-to-day operations including Custodial Services, Grounds Maintenance, and Ancillary Services. Ancillary Services includes but is not limited to key control, waste and recycling, moving, and pest control. The director develops processes and ensures that those processes result in efficient and cost effective operations. The director must have strong business skills, leadership skills, communication skills, and interpersonal skills. The director must have a solid understanding of financial management, risk management, and regulatory compliance. The nature of the position requires frequent on-site presence and availability at any time of the day on weekdays and weekends. The position will report directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor and will serve as a core member of Plant Operations leadership team.

      About the Work Unit

      The Facilities Department provides support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University space and facilities; real estate services; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.

      Facilities annual budget exceeds $100 million in operating expenses and includes over 400 employees. It manages major capital project expenditures totaling ~$125 million annually and facility renewal, replacement and large maintenance project expenditures totaling ~$20 million annually. The Facilities Business Operations Center provides support to the entire department, specifically regarding the areas of Finance, Employee Relations, Systems, Contracts and General Administration.

      Key Functions and Expected Performance

      • Collaborate and build relationships with other departments to improve customer service and support the mission of the university.
      • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance, streamline workflows, improve safety, and reduce costs.
      • Develop and implement operational strategies to maximize efficiency and productivity.
      • Recruit, train, reward, and manage staff to improve retention and productivity.
      • Manage budgets and resources to ensure optimal use of university resources.
      • Monitor analyze, and report key performance indicators.
      • Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership and provide regular updates on operational performance.
      • Forecast human capital and equipment needs to provide a defined standard of care based on justifiable data and metrics.
      • Support other areas within Facilities and serve as in the place of other leaders during their absence.

      Supervisory Relationships

      This position reports administratively and functionally to the Assistant Vice Chancellor and has supervisory responsibility for a large number of staff.

      Education and Certifications

      • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and 8 years of progressive management experience in university facilities operations or similar operations.
      • Preference will be given to candidates with a master’s degree and higher education experience.

      Experience and Skills

      • Must have strong organizational skills, communication and interpersonal skills, relevant technical and functional expertise, and proven leadership.
      • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
      • Candidates must have a valid TN driver’s license, or be able to obtain one within one month of employment.
