  SUMMARY

  In 2021 Price Chopper/Market 32 merged with Tops Markets and together became subsidiaries of Northeast Grocery, Inc., along with our back-office operation, Northeast Shared Services. We operate supermarkets in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire and are comprised of nearly 300 stores, several warehouse and distribution centers, and approximately 30,000 teammates and associates. Northeast Shared Services provides business services and support to both the Tops and Price Chopper/Market 32 operating companies.

  Northeast Shared Services is seeking a powerhouse Meat leader. This individual will serve as a champion, subject matter expert, and motivator for procuring and merchandising Best-in Class Meat products. They will enthusiastically design merchandising strategies that celebrate our commitment to fresh products, local sourcing, unique signature items, and beyond. These merchandising strategies will set the tone for meal planning, everyday freshness, and seasonality across our entire store.   The Director of Meat is responsible for achieving desired sales, gross profit, and customer experience goals. This position requires aggressive leadership to create a shopping experience that reflects our commitment to provide the taste, quality, and value our guests expect by offering delicious, high-quality foods at an affordable price. This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors and suppliers and providing direct supervision to Meat Category Management and Merchandising teams. This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong partnerships across internal and external teams with focus on our customers.

  Position can be located in Buffalo, NY or the Schenectady, NY office

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  Duties include but not limited to:

  • Responsible for developing merchandising plans geared toward maximizing sales and share growth in our marketplace achieved through management of assortment, pricing, promotion, and display execution in collaboration with banner leadership.
  • Manages annual, period, and weekly department forecasts for sales, margin, and inventory; including monitoring of performance to meet Northeast Shared Services financial targets.
  • Responsible for the effective communication between the merchandising and operations teams to ensure all business plans are relevant, achievable, and implemented.
  • Measures, monitors, and adjusts to performance of plans. Quickly identifies any shortfalls by developing actions to correct and meet budgeted sales and profits.
  • Develops strategies for category management team to evolve business practices by utilizing a consumer centric marketing approach to selling.
  • Develops category management processes that utilize fact-based decisions generated through use of internal and external proprietary and syndicated market data.
  • Provides specific goals by ad type for each category business manager for sales, scan rate, and gross profit dollars.
  • Provides leadership to coach, teach, train, and mentor the development of the Meat merchandising team with ongoing direction in execution of merchandising plans.
  • Responsible for creating a collaborative and cooperative negotiation environment with trade partners where sales and profit are achievable in all major contracts.
  • Oversees the weekly ad writing process and merchandising plan development.
  • Assists advertising and merchandising departments in the creation of promotional programs.
  • Actively participates in merchandising of new and remodeled stores to ensure correct assortment is applied to stores with specific demographics.
  • Is responsible to ensure compliance of corporate policies and practices.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • must have strong Meat category management skills as well as a strong business acumen.
  • is self-motivated and possesses excellent organization, planning, and time management skills, and can multi-task across multiple projects with varying deadlines.

  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a current state driver’s license and valid insurance with the ability to travel to business locations as needed.
