The Mission of the Department of Public Instruction:
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education.The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for a Public Information Director II (Working Title: Director of the Office of Stakeholder and Community Engagement) for our Deputy State Superintendent Office.
The Director for Stakeholder and Community Engagement will report directly to the Chief Communications Officer and will lead the NCDPI efforts to inform, listen, learn, understand, and respond to external partners and fulfill NCDPI’s responsibility as a valuable partner to the K-12 public education community, including, but not limited to teachers, school administrators, charter school principals, district superintendents, parents, students, local school board members, the NC General Assembly and professional education organizations. This office will manage stakeholder and community engagement activities driven by public policy, superior service, user friendly contact models/tools, and sound management strategies. Through these numerous partnerships, this office will establish a positive and progressive cadence of communication with the k-12 public education community on behalf of the Superintendent, the State Board of Education, and the many offices within NCDPI. This position is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive strategies to engage with diverse external stakeholders and community groups, building strong relationships, gathering feedback, and aligning community needs with organizational goals, often acting as a primary liaison between external organizations and the wider K-12 public education community by leading outreach initiatives, facilitating dialogue, and managing community engagement programs.This position is designated Exempt Policymaking.
