POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Technical Accounting reports to the Company’s VP, Financial Reporting and is responsible for leading the Company’s efforts in researching, interpreting and applying complex accounting standards and regulations. The Director, Technical Accounting collaborates closely with the broader accounting and finance departments to ensure compliance with GAAP, SEC and other relevant financial reporting requirements.

• Serve as the primary subject matter expert on all technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition, leases, debt, critical actuarial assessments and derivatives.
• Oversee all aspects of the Company’s lease accounting (ASC 842) and serve as primary liaison to the lease accounting and database administrators.
• Oversee bi-annual critical actuarial studies and serve as primary liaison to the Company’s actuarial firms.
• Prepare memos on key accounting topics and manage communications with external auditors to ensure compliance with the Company’s treatment of complex transactions, application of new accounting guidance and related disclosures.
• Implement and monitor internal controls and policies over financial reporting and key technical accounting topics.
• Provide guidance to hospital accounting personnel on complex accounting topics. As needed, research technical accounting issues and provide recommendations to the VP, Financial Reporting / SVP, Chief Accounting Officer.
• Provide assistance with other financial reporting activities, including review of interim and annual financial statements and coordination of quarterly review and annual audit requests for external auditors.
• Perform other duties as needed, including assistance with transactions, acquisitions and other special projects.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA certification.
• 7+ years of experience, including some management experience.
• Public accounting experience required and healthcare and corporate experience preferred.
