- Develop and execute a data strategy roadmap that aligns with the club's business goals, optimizing revenue streams and operational effectiveness.
- Leverage data and analytics to co-lead executive leadership on long-term business strategy development.
- Evangelize a data-driven culture by educating stakeholders on best practices, insights, and opportunities.
- Serve as the trusted analytics partner to executive leadership, influencing strategic decision-making across ticketing, merchandising, sponsorship, marketing, and fan engagement.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and management of the club's data architecture, analytics platforms, and reporting systems.
- Ensure best practices in data governance, integrity, security, and compliance with league, privacy, and ethical standards.
- Manage relationships with external vendors providing BI, data warehousing, and analytics services.
- Develop advanced analytics models (including predictive analytics and AI/ML applications) to optimize:
- Ticket sales, pricing strategies, and attendance forecasting.
- Merchandising: Use sales data to predict product performance, identify gaps, and plan for key purchasing periods.
- Sponsorship valuation and ROI measurement to enhance partnerships.
- Fan engagement insights to improve retention, personalization, and digital experiences.
- Operational efficiencies across departments.
- Create and manage real-time dashboards for executives and department heads, providing actionable insights.
- Identify untapped opportunities in structured and unstructured data sources to improve decision-making.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing Business Intelligence & Analytics team.
- Manage agency/third party vendor relationships.
- Establish department structure, hiring plans, and career development paths.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration, ensuring that all departments have access to actionable data insights.
- Proven ability to influence executive decision-making and drive strategic planning through storytelling with data.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships across departments and external partners.
- Ability to work well in a cross-functional matrix management environment with a highly collaborative, team-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- High-energy, solution-oriented mindset with a passion for using data to drive innovation and success.
- Bachelor's degree required (MBA preferred); quantitative disciplines (e.g., Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Business Analytics) preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or strategy, with at least 3-5 years leading a BI/analytics team in sports, entertainment, or a similar industry.
- Proven success in leading data initiatives that drive revenue growth and operational efficiency.
- Deep experience with BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, etc).
- Strong SQL and data visualization skills; familiarity with Python or R for advanced modeling is a plus.
- Experience with predictive analytics, AI, and machine learning to drive business insights.
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, compelling, and actionable recommendations.

The Director/Sr. Director of Business Intelligence will serve as the head of the department, responsible for developing and leading San Diego Wave's business intelligence, data strategy, and analytics functions. This individual will be a key member of the leadership team driving the long-term business strategy and will set the vision for how data is collected, managed, and leveraged to drive revenue growth, fan engagement, sponsorship valuation, and operational efficiencies, while also identifying new revenue opportunities.
The role requires a strategic thinker and hands-on leader who can build a high-performing team, partner with internal and external stakeholders, and establish a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization.
