      Job summary

      We are looking for a kind and friendly person to work on the front desk of our dispensary. Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail are essential in this busy and rewarding role, helping patients order and collect their prescribed medications.

      Full training will be given, with future opportunities for development for the right candidate.

      The role is 18.5 hours each week, Monday & Friday mornings & Tuesday all day. Our ideal hours are Monday 8.30am - 1pm,Tuesday 9am until 5.30pm (1 hour unpaid lunch break) and Friday 8.30am until 2pm. There is the possibility of slight changes to start and finish times to suit the right candidate.

      Main duties of the job

      The role will be customer facing, helping people order medications, liaising with clinicians and other team members as required. Passing dispensed medications to patients is also an essential part of the role, which includes checking patient details and helping ensure the back of the prescription form is completed. Taking payments from patients who pay for medications is also part of the role, as is helping dispensers by picking medications from stock to support the dispensing process.

      Shipston Medical Centre provides primary health care services for the population of Shipston on Stour and the surrounding villages. We have around 12,000 patients, dispensing medications to approx 5500 of these.       Job description

      Job responsibilities

      a) Provide a professional, prompt and efficient service for all patients.

      b) Ensure polite and helpful customer service.

      c) Process prescriptions in line with Practice procedures, ensuring medications are ordered as needed, or where they are not available a clinician is alerted.

      d) Handing out dispensed medications to those collecting, ensuring the correct patients items are provided and prescription processes are completed, including recording of whether a patient pays for prescriptions or is exempt.

      e) Processing cash and card payments for prescriptions and other items

      f) Daily cash up of the dispensary till, recording number and type of payments processed.

      g) Dispose of returned medications according to practice protocol.

      h) Accept returned sharps containers for waste disposal, in line with practice protocol.

      i) Selecting medication items from stock, to support the dispenser in dispensing medications.

      j) Ensure efficiency of stock control, date rotation, checking dates of dispensing for items awaiting collection and date checking medications.

      k) Follow all dispensary standard operating procedures, escalating problems or issues to the Dispensary Manager, or other management colleagues where appropriate.

      l) Liaise with members of the primary health care team, as required, and communicate information to them via the systems set up within the Practice.

      m) Strict adherence with confidentiality, data protection and other legislation.

      • Evidence of flexibility and the ability to undertake additional hours, if required (eg sickness cover/annual leave cover)
