Duke Chapel Wedding Assistant (part-time).
This Part Time position serves as an assistant to the
Wedding Director for weddings performed at Duke Chapel. Work hours are mostly on Saturdays with
occasional hours on Fridays and Sundays during the summer months. The individual will perform the
following:
1. Assist the wedding director as needed.
Get Wedding Chapel Key Ring from Wedding Coordinator
Relay Director’s Instructions to Bridal Party
Advise Director as to progress according to schedule
2. Fill water cooler jug with ice and water
Bridal Parlor marble‐topped table with paper cups, mints, spill tray
Have a waste basket with Water Station.
3. Turn on Fan in Parlor and Check that restrooms are in order.
4. Get the Registry Book from the Tower Door Cabinet place on VRA desk
5. Be available to meet the wedding party, vendors, and introduce yourself.
6. Floral Assist with corsages and bouts. (Get Display Pedestals if Needed.)
7. Light the Altar Candles
8. Greet Bride, et al, at ADA door. Take to Parlor and Show wall hook for Gown.
9. Monitor the bride’s progress in parlor. Move her to arcades when ready/ensure that she moves
on time. Carry the bridal party’s things (bags, clothing, makeup, etc.) upstairs to the back pew.
10. Distribute bouquets to bride and bridesmaids.
11. Always advise VRA when the bride is to enter the Narthex
12. Move groom to Parlor then to ADA Vestibule at appropriate times.
13. Signal the entrance of the minister, groom, and best man.
14. Resupply the Wedding cabinet
15. Recessional, open Nave doors to the Narthex then open side doors to the north Arcade.
16. Meet the wedding party outside the side entrance and lead them to the ADA vestibule – wait
for the parents!
17. After guests have exited Nave, bring bridal party to Registry Book
18. During Photo Session, empty water coolers, pat dry with paper towels, and return them to the
Wedding Cabinet. Return silver trays, cups, mints, and other wedding items there as well.
19. Always advise VRA when the bride/groom are to exit via the front doors of the Narthex
20. If there were floral displays, return pedestals to the back of the chancel.
21. Extinguish Altar Candles
22. Replace and straighten chairs. Assist with clean‐up as needed.
Some lifting and carrying is required. Education or experience in theology, liturgy, pastoral care,
or event coordination is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Duke and Durham is a plus.

Education
Work requires a knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally acquired through a high school education.
Experience
Work requires three months of clerical orgeneral office support OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE experience to become familiar with activities involved in providing routine clerical support.
