      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

      1. Academic background that demonstrates training and achievement in the areas of early literacy as well as reading assessment, instructional methodologies, and in depth knowledge of the five major reading components: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
      2. A Master’s Degree or better.
      3. A valid Michigan Teacher Certificate.
      4. Specific expertise in Early Literacy (current trainer or early literacy trainer preferred).
      5. At least five years of successful classroom teaching experience at the K-3 level.
      6. Experience as a facilitator in the areas of curriculum, instructional methods and staff inservices.
      7. Experience in planning and presenting both short- and long-range staff development programs in the area of balanced literacy at the K-3 level.
      8. Demonstrate ability to work as a member of a team.
      9. Demonstrated ability to facilitate instructional change at local, state and/or national level(s).
      10. Demonstrated ability to use data from assessment for instructional decision making.
      11. Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

      DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :

      1. Ability to demonstrate the use of the personal computer as a productivity tool including use of software such as a word processor, spreadsheet, database and online communication package, or the ability to demonstrate successful application of a variety of Microsoft Office technology, e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
      2. Ability to effectively communicate through the spoken and written word.
      3. Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and constituents both individually and as members of teams.
      4. Self-directed and motivated.
      5. Ability to work a flexible schedule involving early morning, evening and/or weekend assignment as needs dictate.
      6. Ability to use electronic technologies to deliver professional information and training.

      RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

      1. Working with local building teachers and administrators in providing training and support for developing a comprehensive literacy approach with children in grades K-3.
      2. Working with teachers to ensure that evidence-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity.
      3. Working with teachers to provide professional development in each of the five major reading components.
      4. Conduct demonstration lessons for teachers, teams of teachers, or grade levels utilizing the gradual release model.
      5. Provide professional development that could include, but not be limited to: in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in looking at student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on student needs, and supporting data analysis, etc.
      6. Acquire the knowledge, skills, and instructional evidence based reading strategies to effectively impact the instructional practices of the teachers that are coached.
      7. Assist teachers in understanding how to use evidence of learning for instructional planning that will have a positive impact on student achievement.
      8. Use data from diagnostic tools to determine the necessary additional supports and interventions needed by individual students in grades K-3 in order to be reading at grade level.
      9. Assist with horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of reading and writing standards at the school and/or district level.
      10. Remain knowledgeable about current and past research in the specific content area and other pedagogies relevant to the coach role.
      11. Provide services to local district educators in collaboration with the Consultant Services Department.
      12. Keep record as directed by the Chief Academic Officer.
      13. Other assignments as determined by future course of events.
      14. Perform all other duties as appropriate and determined Chief Academic Officer.

      WORK LOCATION : Educational Service Center

      WORK YEAR : 186 Days

      SALARY : Per the salary schedule of the MIFT Master Agreement.
