- Maintains continuous observation of patient, performs room safety checks, and completes observation log.
- Maintains patient safety by direct supervision, reorienting and redirecting confused patient, following safety standards (i.e. hand hygiene, isolation precautions, fall prevention, suicide precautions) and keeping the environment hazard free.
- Communicates with nurse any changes in patient behavior or condition.
- Communicates effectively with patient and family
- Assists patient with basic hygiene, comfort, meal set up, etc.
- Operates bed controls, TV, call light system, and bed/chair alarms.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills, as well as, exhibiting strong organizational skills and work ethic.
- Demonstrates a professional demeanor when responding to patients/customers.
- Direct patient care delivery (includes ADLs, hygiene measures, select treatments, patient/family education, discharge preparation)
- Communication and documentation of interventions and observations
- Participation in quality improvement process
- Involved in learning and self-improvement
- Initiates and maintains a positive relationship with patients/customers and coworkers
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Currently enrolled in a college program with a strong interest in Nursing.

Selected participants will start their UH nursing career in one of our entry-level patient care roles in order to gain valuable hands-on patient care experience. Participants will receive bonus payments as they achieve the following milestones:
· 90 day initial employment period ($3,000)
· Promotion from Patient Observer to Nursing Assistant II role ($3,000)
· Promotion from Nursing Assistant II to New Graduate RN role ($4,000)
· Successful completion of 1st year as an RN ($5,000)
Students with qualifying educational loans are also eligible for an additional $15,000 in Loan Repayment benefits, equaling up to $30,000 in support!
