      Summary:
      This position assists the Economic Development Director & Regional Innovation Officer in providing economic development and planning assistance to communities in the MORPC service area. This position facilitates economic development assistance and projects in the region thorough implementation of the regional Community Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). This position works closely with One Columbus, private sector stakeholders and local public agencies to coordinate regional improvements and assists with project development and public review and involvement processes. The position supports delivery of economic development resources under the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). The position assists with numerous other economic development resources and projects spanning resources from multiple state, federal and local sources.

      • Assist communities with project applications, grant writing and project development for projects that support economic and community development
      • Provide technical assistance to local governments, business, regional entities and other stakeholder organizations in the economic recovery and resiliency from the pandemic
      • Assists with Economic Resiliency Planning and prepare economic data and analysis.
      • Assist with updates to Competitive Advantage Projects (CAP) - bi-annual project prioritization process and CAP technical assistance
      • Economic Development District (EDD) - support for formation and servicing economic development partners
      • Assists with administration of brownfields programs through U.S. EPA
      • Coordinate information requests for economic development transactions
      • Manage special projects related to economic development or workforce access; support agency planning projects with economic or infrastructure development components
      • Support major regional competitive grant applications
      • Assist with organizing and facilitation of meetings for various programs, initiatives, or forums
      • Prepare research, planning reports and summaries
      • Maintain working knowledge of federal and state guidelines
      • Knowledge of Public Involvement, Social and Environmental Justice
      • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
      Essential Functions:
      • Prepares research, planning reports, and summaries.
      • Presents reports and represents MORPC in a non-policymaking capacity to government officials, citizen groups, professional organizations, etc.
      • Represents MORPC in various public forums including public involvement meetings, and inter-agency coordination meetings.
      • Assists with updating MORPC planning and program documents.
      • Maintains working knowledge of federal and state guidelines.
      Knowledge of the principles and best practices of public administration, economic development and planning. Understanding of the resources available to and needs of Central Ohio seeking economic development project assistance. Should be familiar with federal, state and local resources for economic development and infrastructure planning. Ability to communicate effectively with MORPC members, state agencies, federal agencies. Must have strong project management skills and ability to conduct research and prepare reports and presentations. Organizational skills are essential and the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite Programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and strong ability to work independently and on a team. Essential functions include the ability to use phone, computer and participate in meetings in person and virtually. Ability to conduct virtual meetings and webinars, and the ability to establish good working relationships with peers and partners. Acceptable Experience and Training:

      Completion of a bachelor's degree in City and Regional Planning, Economics, Civil Engineering, Geography or comparable subject matter from an accredited college or university PLUS a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in economic and community development; OR a combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.MORPC is an EOE/AAP employer.
