      Who We Are:
      The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is seeking an Economist III to join the Economic Analysis unit of the Labor Market Information (LMI) Department. The LMI department’s mission is to collect, produce, analyze, and disseminate accurate labor market information to assist customers in making informed choices for a variety of purposes, including business investment decision making, career exploration and planning, and public or private workforce investments. LMI is part of the Innovation & Insight (I|3) division, which supports and helps TWC unlock the power of its data to improve the services we provided to the employers, individuals, families, and communities of Texas.

      You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission. This position is located at 101 E 15th Street in Austin, TX but eligible to telecommute within the state of Texas. The employee may be required to attend in person meetings within the Austin, TX area.       What you Will Do:
      The Economist III performs advanced (senior-level) economics work. Work involves planning, coordinating, and conducting economic studies and analyses; determining and evaluating economic factors related to programs and projects; and coordinating the collection of economic information. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

      The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.

      GENERAL DUTIES:
      - Responsible for monthly and annual deliverables of the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program per Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) contract.
      - Generate, analyze, interpret and publish statewide and sub-state area employment, hours and earnings estimates.
      - Research, compile, and generate responses to requests for employment and wage statistics and other labor market information and provide technical assistance to data users.
      - Prepare and present reports using employment, unemployment and other economic statistics that discuss trends and patterns observed in the data for internal and external customers.
      - Assist and participate in routine departmental data release efforts, public information activities, and internal agency briefings.
      - Develop and make presentations, speeches and briefings on current employment statistics and other labor market information and conditions to internal and external audiences and for outreach and training efforts.
      - May develop or assist with developing research techniques, methodologies and procedures.
      - Perform all other duties and assignments as instructed by the supervisor in the furtherance of the TWC and LMCI mission and goals.

      You Qualify With:
      -Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, plus two years of full-time experience in economic research or statistical or analytical work.
      -One year of full-time qualifying experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of education.


      Duty requires up to 25% travel and the ability to lift 30 pounds. Preferred work schedule, Monday through Friday, starting between 7 and 9 AM, and ending between 4 and 6 PM. Flex scheduling and telecommuting opportunities are available depending on work performance and/or demonstration of need, but the individual should have the ability to regularly work on-site once the pandemic allows for safe, in-person work in a common office.

      You Are a Great Fit With:
      -Three years of experience in economic analysis including data production, survey collection, or economic report narration.
      -Knowledge or experience using database languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
      -Experience using Tableau, Data Visualization software, and Business Intelligence software
      -Experience with TWC data systems and programs preferred but not mandatory
      -Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
      -Strong interpersonal abilities that cultivate a culture of continuous improvement
      -Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think “Outside of the Box”
      -Ability to communicate effectively using written, verbal, and visual means, including the creation and delivery of presentations.
      -Ability to manage project activities.
      -Ability to establish project goals and objectives.
      -Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
      -Ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues.
