      Job Description:

      THE OPPORTUNITY

      This is an editorial role supporting the Editorial Director of Graphix Media and AFK and the Executive Editor responsible for BOB Books and I Survived. This role is responsible for writing factsheets, reviewing manuscripts and mechanicals, creating school market commitments, finalizing ISBNs, scheduling meetings, managing calendars, completing paperwork for deal memos, ordering books from the warehouse, running P&Ls, and various other entry-level editorial and administrative tasks. This position will work closely with the Editorial Director and Executive Editor on manuscripts and layouts through all stages of production. The editorial assistant will learn about all stages of licensed book acquisition, from review and evaluation all the way through final production.

      RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Completing paperwork for author contracts, book ISBNs, school market commits, etc.

      • Reviewing and submitting materials for approval to licensors through online database

      • Helping manage book specs in online database and on grids

      • Writing back cover and catalog copy / metadata

      • General administrative support for busy Editorial Director and Executive Editor, including scheduling meetings, running P&Ls, and handling ebooks

      • Reading manuscripts, providing editorial feedback, and reviewing layouts through all stages of book production

      • Ordering books for authors and illustrators, and for departmental staff

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Must have a love of pop culture, whether it’s TV, movies, videogames, children’s lit, or all of the above.

      • Must have good basic writing and editing skills – involvement in college newspaper or other writing organization a plus

      • Must be organized and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

      • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Skills in online meeting applications and Adobe Acrobat Pro a plus.
