      Position Overview:
      Under the direction of the EHE Project Coordinator – the EHE Health Equity Specialist will apply principles of health equity to perform various functions, including but not limited to planning, monitoring, evaluation, assessment, and capacity-building activities for the Ryan White Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) grant. In this capacity, the position will collaborate with various stakeholders of Harris County HIV/AIDS communities, and stakeholders at local, state, and federal levels to advance health equity.

      Duties & Responsibilities:
      • Serve as a liaison and facilitator for health equity planning activities internal and external to HCPH by engaging the public in planning, problem-solving, policy development, and decision-making for community health improvement and sustainability initiatives
      • Coordinate methods for monitoring and evaluating EHE grant-related equity projects, programs, and policies
      • Identify, gather, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data and other information to guide planning, practice, evaluation, and policy development to advance health equity
      • Develop proposals, recommendations, strategies, and project plans to address health inequities and their root causes that contribute to differences in health outcomes across various populations
      • Incorporate fund development, resource, and sustainability planning for EHE grant-related initiatives
      • Identify and promote equitable, best practice strategies that inform policies and practices internal and external to HCPH
      • Oversee the development, reporting, and maintenance of assessments that directly capture issues relevant to health equity and determinants of health
      • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that health equity and health determinants are included in collecting, analyzing, and reporting performance and community health data
      • Assist the EHE Project Coordinator in coordinating capacity-building efforts to advance strategic efforts and increase access to care
      • Other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event

      Education:
      • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Urban/Regional Planning, social sciences, or related field
      Experience:
      • Two (2) years of work experience with major responsibilities in health equity and/or community health assessments.
      Licenses/Certifications:
      • Valid Driver’s License (Texas upon hire)
      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
      • Experience in program evaluation, data analysis, and data visualization
      • Knowledge of the principles of public health practice and health equity
      • Knowledge of the tools and strategies used in assessment, planning, and evaluation
      • Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

        Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
        • Full-Time | Grant Funded
        • Monday – Friday | 8 am – 5 pm
        • Other days and hours as necessary.
        Work Environment:
        • This job operates remotely and in a professional office environment.
        • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and printers.
        Physical Demands:
        • This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending and standing for periods at a time.
