      GENERAL SUMMARY

      Assists with the design of the curriculum for K-5 English Language Arts.
      Responsible for the implementation and the evaluation of the curriculum. Ensures the selection of high-quality educational programs that will meet the needs of the students and increase academic success. Works with teachers and administrators to select the most appropriate curriculum and assessments to measure student progress and increase academic performance. Reports to the Executive Director of Academics.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)

      Analyzes student data for English Language Arts K-5 on a regular basis.

      Provides current and past student performance data to teachers & administrators to utilize
      and plan for classroom instruction.

      Meets with teachers and administrators to design and develop curriculum, goals, plans and guides.

      Works with teachers and administrators to develop and implement effective teaching strategies.

      Observes teachers and students for the purpose of gathering useful data. Provides support and feedback as needed.

      Assists with the selection of instructional materials, technology, books and off-campus learning experiences to enhance learning.

      Collaborates with teachers and administrators to identify areas of strength and areas of improvement in the curriculum and makes the necessary changes.

      Provides training and professional development related to utilizing the curriculum, proper assessments and use of technology in the areas of English Language Arts
      as necessary and required.

      Promotes and coordinates the implementation of research- based instructional strategies.

      Keeps current on trends and best practices for curriculum design and implementation.

      Assists with school improvement and professional development plans for the District and Schools.

      Coordinates data team meetings with the teachers and principals as needed.

      Promotes the utilization of action research, common formative assessments, and summative assessments to adjust classroom instruction.

      Attends all required District staff meetings and professional development sessions.

      Works with individual teachers and principals as needed or required.

      Teaches model lessons where appropriate.

      Conducts collaborative conversations with teachers.

      Meets regularly with teachers and principals to coordinate instructional activities related to the District and school improvement plans related to English Language Arts

      Assists the principals with the calendar for school- wide professional development that is directly related to school and District improvement plans for English Language Arts.

      Facilitates professional development activities by presenting directly to staff or scheduling individuals to present activities.

      Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.

      Willingly performs other related duties as required.



      JOB SPECIFICATIONS

      Education and Experience:

      South Carolina Teacher’s Certificate in a related area
      Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred; Minimum of three years of
      successful classroom teaching experience with some experience at the elementary school level.

      Knowledge:
      Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school District which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position; knowledge in the methods of curriculum design, analyzing test data and designing improvement plans for student learning; knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning; knowledge of instructional technology to enhance learning; knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained; knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities; knowledge of and experience with effective instruction and assessment, school improvement and best practices in English Language Arts.

      Skills/Effort:
      Ability to work with others effectively and in a collaborative manner; ability to analyze and utilize data to improve student learning outcomes; ability to address and solve problems; ability to present information in a professional and concise manner; ability to communicate effectively with teachers and their students, District staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job; strong research, communication and interpersonal skills required.


      Working Conditions:

      Conducts duties in a classroom/school/ office environment; physical demands are restricted
      to work requiring the lifting/moving of items weighing up to ten pounds; occasional local travel is required; some overnight travel may be required.
