- Collaborates with teachers or teams of teachers to enhance teacher effectiveness through a coaching model
- Serves as a resource to teachers and administrators PreK - 5
- Provides professional support and coaching for math teachers
- Provides procedural and technical support for math teachers
- Assists teachers and administrators in analyzing data, targeting instruction, and designing professional development with the goal of impacting student achievement
- Assists teachers with planning daily instructional activities for all students, demonstrating knowledge of subject matter and using state Standards of Learning and the curriculum of the district
- Supports teachers in alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment and makes recommendations to Director of Elementary Education
- Uses current school and division data to plan instruction
- Supports administrators with school-based math goals and effective professional development plans
- Stays abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction and effective schools
- Maintains professional manner when interacting with administrators, teachers, students, community agencies, and colleagues
- Incorporates and models appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning
- Supports multiple schools, requiring travel across the district
- Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Elementary Education
ELEVEN MONTHS (220 DAYS), INCLUDING IN PART PAID STATE RETIREMENT & STATE MANDATED LIFE INSURANCE & IN PART FOR HEALTH INSURANCE
General Definition of Work:
Collaborative position requiring skills in job-embedded professional development, planning, modeling, and supporting research-based strategies in the area of math instruction. Ability to support teachers in planning, organizing, and delivering instruction to meet individual and group needs utilizing state guidelines and division curriculum. Exhibits considerable knowledge of learning theory and best practices. Acts in the best interests of students and models appropriate behaviors in all professional interactions.
Essential Functions/ Typical Tasks:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must possess a comprehensive understanding of intervention programs and strategies to support students and teachers in math instruction to meet individualized goals in support of achieving grade level state standards of learning. Must demonstrate the ability to plan, model, and deliver current research-based best practices and interventions in math instruction and be able to assess student responsiveness to those interventions through analysis of observation and assessment data. Must be able to work collaboratively with team members and serve as a liaison between teachers, school based administration, and elementary education staff.
Education and Experience:
Possession of a Virginia Department of Education teaching license. A Master’s Degree is required. Minimum five years successful teaching experience. Experience assisting teachers in defining, developing and implementing curriculum. Experience coaching teachers in math. Experience conducting professional development. Demonstrated leadership and exhibit effective oral and written communication skills.
