- Provide training and support to campuses regarding instructional strategies, IEP goals, PLAAFPs and state assessment for students receiving special education services.
- Lead the Dyslexia program, including mandated activities per the Dyslexia handbook and state law.
- Plan and conduct staff development, for elementary teachers providing inclusion, resource, and Dyslexia services.
- Lead PLCs for elementary teachers providing inclusion, resource, and Dyslexia services.
- Remain informed of the current research in the education of students with disabilities, including Dyslexia.
- Oversee dyslexia screening tools.
- Collect and analyze progress reports of students receiving Reading by Design services.
- Effectively communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators about needs and characteristics of disabilities, including Dyslexia.
- Provide training and support in the area of the Dyslexia instructional program(s) implemented in the district.
- Maintain availability of materials for Dyslexia intervention trainings and program implementation.
- Communicate effectively with the community, parents, and students.
- Encourage and promote parental and community involvement in the educational process.
- Participate in ongoing personal professional development to help administrators, teachers and other educators improve their professional knowledge, competence, skill and effectiveness.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers including the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide leadership and support to elementary staff and campuses as they provide services to identified students with disabilities. Implement a district-wide system of training and support to Dyslexia trained teachers K-12.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree
Master’s Degree preferred
Special Education Certification- preferred
Licensed Dyslexia Therapist OR Certified Academic Language Therapist OR Speech Language Pathologist OR Dyslexia Trained Teacher with 3 years experience implementing a Dyslexia program preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledgeable about disabilities, including Dyslexia and effective interventions
Effectively communicate in a variety of settings (professional development, parent training, student interactions, etc.)
Ability to analyze student level data to determine appropriate considerations for programming needs
Solve problems of differing complexities
Provide instructional leadership to AISD employees
Knowledgeable about and effective with teacher professional growth
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 30 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district-wide travel; statewide travel and occasional out-of-state travel
Regular attendance is an essential function
Minimum Experience:
Three years teaching in a Special Education role, or three years implementing a Dyslexia Intervention Program, or providing services to students with speech/language impairments.
