Performs preventive maintenance tasks on elevators per established standards.
Performs repairs and installs replacement parts to correct troubles on elevators and dumbwaiters.
Corrects deficiencies found by elevator inspectors, on periodic inspections, in a timely and safe manner.
May make wiring changes of power and control work voltages and install replacement parts to correct problems with elevators, dumbwaiters, book lifts, and wheelchair lifts.
Assist elevator inspectors during inspections and safety tests.
Administers elevator maintenance contracts by placing service calls, assisting with repair work, and conducting follow-up inspections.
Responsible for training Elevator Assistant Mechanics
Assist in emergency response calls which may require removal of passengers from disabled elevators.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license.
Licensure: Virginia Elevator Mechanic License and a NAEC Certified Elevator Technician Certification or NEIEP Certification.

The Facilities Management department at the University of Virginia is seeking a motivated individual for an exciting and unique opportunity to join their Elevator team!
Elevator Mechanics perform all levels of maintenance, repairs, and adjustments of electrical and mechanical equipment related to elevators, dumbwaiters, wheelchair lifts, and other hydraulic or electrical lift devices. Mechanics have working knowledge of methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in the elevator trade, as well as considerable training and experience at the Journey level. This role demonstrates competency in electronics, electrical, or mechanical systems signified by considerable experience in those trades.
Elevator Mechanics mostly work independently under approval of a supervisor and provide guidance to Elevator Assistant Mechanics in servicing equipment, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance. To help foster a safe work environment, incumbents will comply with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations while supporting safe vertical transportation of students, staff, patients, and visitors throughout the University.
The Elevator team is part of Facilities Management (FM) which supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With approximately 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, FM is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Anticipated hiring range: $34 - $38 per hour ($70,720 - $79,040 annually) commensurate with the successful candidate’s ability to meet preferred qualifications.

Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, bend and twist in order to perform their work. Employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions. Must be comfortable with climbing ladders and working from extreme heights. The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
