      Job summary

      The role of 0-19 Enhanced Service Fathers Worker is a new role for 12 months to work alongside Family Nurses and the Enhanced Health Visiting service in Wirral. The successful candidate will work with first time fathers-to-be and fathers of very young children in their homes or community settings. The fathers will be identified by the Family Nurse or the Enhanced Health Visitor as requiring additional support to become the best father they can be- promoting sensitive and responsive parenting; supporting access to holistic interventions from other agencies and employment, education or training. The Fathers worker will use a trauma informed approach to engage and work with fathers alongside the Family Nurse or Health visitor for several months to improve outcomes for them and their child

      Main duties of the job

      work alongside the Family Nurse or Enhanced Health Visitor to engage young first time fathers who often have additional vulnerabilities and risk, using advanced communication skills and a trauma informed approach.

      work independently in home and/or community settings with fathers and their young children.

      support the fathers to develop evidence based parenting approaches and to understand their role in their child's development and health.

      work with other agencies including drug and alcohol prevention/support services; colleges; employers; housing; children's social care; 'leaving care' workers; Family Hubs to promote holistic support.

      Use 0-19 services bespoke Journey of Change Tool to collaboratively assess need with fathers, plan work with them on their journey of early parenthood, and measure outcomes with the aim of building self-efficacy.

      Access regular reflective and restorative supervision from Enhanced Service staff.

      Essential

      • NNEB/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Child Care/Public Health or Nurse Associate qualification
      • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

      Desirable

      • Health and Social Care Foundation Degree
      • Brief Intervention/Motivational Interviewing/Advanced communication skills trained

      Experience and Knowledge

      Essential

      • Substantial experience in a health or early years/parenting-related post
      • Experience of working with parents, children, and young people
      • Experience of working in the community with families where Adverse Childhood Experiences and/or additional vulnerabilities have affected their parenting capacity
      • Experience of integrated working and liaising with other agencies
