      What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
      - Conduct state-mandated inspections of various facilities to ensure compliance with public health laws and regulations
      - Investigate environmental complaints and health nuisances to prevent the spread of communicable diseases
      - Perform routine inspections and critical violation visits for food and lodging facilities, swimming pools, and childcare centers
      - Educate facility managers and staff on safe handling processes and sanitation procedures
      - Maintain accurate and detailed inspection records as mandated by state regulations

      What is Required (Qualifications):
      - Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or equivalent education and experience
      - Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist required by the N.C. State Board
      - Ability to pass centralized training and state authorization evaluations
      - Must meet educational requirements for renewal of Registered Environmental Health Specialist status annually
      - Physical capability to perform essential job functions, including lifting and prolonged standing

      How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
      - Experience in public health or environmental health inspections
      - Knowledge of inspection methods and investigation techniques in environmental health
      - Familiarity with food sanitation and communicable disease control
      - Strong communication skills for interacting with the public and facility managers
      - Understanding of environmental health laws and regulations
