      Summary

      This position is part of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy - Golden Field Office, Department of Energy. As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will prepare plans and reports that support compliance with DOE's NEPA regulations. Work collaboratively to ensure consistency and efficiency in NEPA implementation.

      Duties

      As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:

      • Work collaboratively with EERE/GFO NEPA Compliance Officers and NEPA Specialists to ensure consistency and efficiency in NEPA implementation.
      • Serve as designated NEPA Document Manager and/or NEPA Compliance Officer responsible for meeting the objectives and requirements related to NEPA for EERE/GFO financial assistance programs.
      • Technically evaluate scientific and engineering design, development, and implementation of programs/projects.
      • Serve in an advisory and/or consultant capacity to other scientists, staff, and management officials both within and outside of DOE on unusual, difficult, or controversial technical science and engineering matters.
      • Give presentations or trainings on program/project objectives, content, and progress to a variety of professional audiences.
      • Attend and participates in professional society meetings, other professional symposia, and conferences to remain cognizant of developments in the field and to exchange ideas with other biologists and professionals in related fields.
      • Represent the organizational unit in intradepartmental meetings for exchange of information on research, development, demonstration, and evaluation of scientific and engineering technologies, and makes presentations at management reviews and technical meetings.

      Qualifications

      SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

      GS-13: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

      1. Implementing environmental review requirements; and
      2. Working with federal permitting and authorization processes for the National Environmental Policy Act and other environmental regulations; and
      3. Identifying solutions to problems that arise during environmental reviews.


      "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

      Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration.

      CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must (1) meet all of the requirements as described in this section; and 2) be rated "well-qualified", which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.
