What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Develop and draft Clean Water Act permits, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations
- Conduct thorough reviews of permit applications, evaluating technical reports for accuracy
- Collaborate with engineers and compliance staff to assess environmental impacts and establish permit conditions
- Provide technical guidance to applicants and stakeholders throughout the permitting process
- Engage in public outreach, respond to inquiries, and participate in public meetings as needed
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Geology, Biology, Earth Science, or Law
- Minimum 2 years of experience for Level 2; minimum 5 years of experience for Level 3
- Environmental Professional In-Training certification required
- Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, particularly the Clean Water Act
- Exceptional analytical and communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for two years of experience; Doctorate may substitute for four years
- Qualified Environmental Professional certification preferred
- Experience in technical writing and documentation
- Familiarity with project management skills for overseeing the permit writing process
- Knowledge of public engagement strategies related to environmental permitting
