JOB SUMMARY
Reports to: Director of Emergency Department
Reviewed 4/30/25
General Function:
Assist professional nursing staff in the ED by performing specific functions related to patient care not requiring a license. Including personal assistance with activities of daily living and the maintenance of the environment. Also included in the responsibilities for the Emergency Department Technician to report any significant changes in patient condition to the RN and/or Physician. Job Duties are listed below but may not be “all inclusive” and may require additional training and/or classes.
Job Duties: ED Tech
• Escort and transport patients.
• Perform comfort and safety measures for patients.
• Assist with triage and obtain vital signs.
• Assist in blood collection for lab work.
• Perform simple treatments and procedures related to patient care: Assist with CPR in Code Blue situations.
• Cleanse and dress wounds.
• Assist physicians with suturing, splinting and traction.
• Perform ECG’s.
• Answer all communications systems located in ED.
• Collect, clean and transport supplies and equipment to and from central sterile.
• Assist in immobilizing body parts.
• Clean and stock treatment rooms and nurse carts.
• Assist with the maintenance and storage of supplies and linens.
• Maintain orthopedic equipment and supplies.
• Empty trash and linen bags as needed.
• Apply cardiac monitor, oxygen saturation monitor, and automated blood pressure machine to patients.
• Assist with performance improvement.
• Answer telephone, make phone calls to assist with patient care.
• Personal care: cleaning or patients with indicated, assist with elimination, linen change, securing personal items.
• Perform Accu-chek and report finding to nurse and/or physician.
• Application of ice packs
• Weighing of patients
• Clean environment and work area
• Communicate with physician, patients, staff, ancillary personnel and visitors
• Practice good guest relations.
