      Overview

      The Excercise Specialist develops, implements, and evaluates exercise prescriptions for healthy and special populations. Provides one on one consultation to a variety of program participants regarding exercise and health behaviors.

      Qualifications

      Group exercise, ACSM PT, certification preferred.Less than one year experience in a health related setting.BLS Certification required within 30 days of hire

      Responsibilities

      Responsibilities:*Develop, implement and evaluate exercise prescriptions for healthy and special populations based on review of medical history and assessment utilizing ACSM and AACVPR guidelines. *Day to day supervision of participants in a variety of community based or outpatient based exercise/rehab programs*Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of Adults and Geriatrics *Assists with the maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff. *Demonstrates the ability to effectively provide consultation to a variety of individuals and/or groups regarding general aspects of exercise and health behaviors, risk factor modification and lifestyle management. *Perform and interpret fitness assessments, including submaximal treadmill walk test with 12-lead EKG ( ABQ only 2015).*Assist participants with exercise; demonstrate correct anatomical positioning and proper mechanical practices utilizing machines and exercises to prevent injury and adhere to exercise prescription.*Effectively monitor patient vital signs including: BP, HR, SaO2 and capillary glucose. Recognize and respond appropriately to adverse signs. Initiate emergency care according to facility policy.*Maintain patient/member records and documentation according to facility policy*Maintain current professional knowledge base by professional organization membership and/or regular attendance and participation in staff meetings, in-service programs, continuing education workshops, symposia and other courses*Instruct group fitness classes (ABQ only 2015)*May provide personal training services for clients of varying health/fitness/functional levels*Other duties as assigned.
