- Responsible for leading a group of Project Managers on a particular task; this leadership role will include mentoring, training, direction and oversight of their assigned responsibilities.
- Responsible for leading one or more projects typically between $1,000,000 - $50,000,000
- Gathering, defining and documenting project requirements
- Clearly defining and communicating roles, responsibilities and expectations for all members of the project team
- Obtaining and defining staffing requirements and forming project teams
- Independently planning all associated work to meet project goals
- Providing direction and leadership to project management analysts and schedulers
- Developing metrics, procedures, objectives and methods to assess project progress while utilizing established standards and quality objectives
- Conducting project kick-off meetings
- Communicating individual project roles and expectations
- Ensuring all project team members have the tools and training necessary to perform effectively
- Recording, tracking and communicating issues, risks, changes, and status reports within a PG&E standard tool
- Accurately and consistently forecasting project resource, material and contract costs within a standard PG&E tool(s)
- Driving all project related tasks to completion
- Developing and Maintaining up-to-date detailed project schedules and work plans
- Monitoring critical project milestones, and identifying ways to resolve schedule issues
- Coordinating any required contract work within defined PG&E policy
- Conducting site visits as necessary
- Assessing project performance and implementing changes as necessary to ensure the projects remains within specified cost, schedule, scope and quality objectives
- Communicating status of all projects to stakeholders and management
- Developing and maintaining a productive working relationship with project sponsors, vendors and key clients
- Resolving problems of project specific scope within procedural guidelines
- Exercising independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance with moderate scope and complexity
- Preparing all project documentation for closure, storage, and possible auditing activities, ensuring technical accuracy
- Functioning in a process oriented environment

- BA/BS in Computer Science, Business, Engineering or equivalent work experience
- Experience with IT professional service agreements and materials logistics
- 8 years experience in project management
- PMI-Project Management Institute PMP-Project Management Professional certification
- 15+ years’ experience managing one or more complex IT product/software development projects or programs
- Demonstrated experience of successfully delivering Customer Information System projects or replatforms
- Certification from an accredited program (e.g. Stanford Advanced Project Management Certification Program, etc.) or equivalent
- Experience with using Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) such as HP PPMc, Oracle Primavera, SAP Portfolio & Planning Management, Microsoft Project, Jira,etc.
- Experience working in a PMO environment as a Project Lead or Project Manager for large complex projects
- Knowledge of Agile software development principles, values, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques
- Advanced knowledge of utility vendor solutions including Customer Care & Billing, Smart Grid software and infrastructure, Meter Data Management, Distribution Automation, and other related network management systems.

- Workforce planning and resource management skills
- Ability to function and manage project staff in a matrix environment
- Experience managing vendor contract deliverables and schedule, and negotiating project and contract changes
- Graduate Degree in Computer Science or job-related discipline or equivalent experience

- Demonstrated expertise in successful project delivery of utility vendor solutions
- Strong ability to run teams from multiple vendors
- Ability to influence and work across several executive leaders and departments to define, quantify, and drive implementation of the ‘best’ technical solutions
- Understanding of PG&E’s business and IT strategies and objectives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with developing complex project and program management plans in collaboration with client, IT, and vendor stakeholders

Department Overview
The IT Billing Modernization team is focused on the successful implementation of the Customer to Meter Modernization project. PG&E is currently using Customer Care and Billing (“CC&B”) V2.4 platform, which is out of support, contains more the 5,700 customizations developed over the past two decades, and is not able to support ongoing business and customer needs. The project will replace the current CC&B platform to take advantage of up-to-date application capabilities, integrated MDM functionality, reduction of customizations by leveraging base product features, modular rating engine, and other enhanced customer experience opportunities.
Position Summary
The Expert IT Project Manager lead a cross-functional team to design, develop, install, and stabilize new IT functionality. The projects will be large scale, enterprise-level efforts, focused on enhancing existing systems and interfaces, and implementing new systems, technical architecture, or infrastructure. The PM will function as a liaison between project team members, business clients and stakeholders, executives, and project vendors, and act as the go-to person that represents the entire project from initiation through deployment. The Project Manager will use applicable cost and scheduling tools to define and control aspects of the project, including scope, budget, tasks, timeline, resource needs, and other project variables. The Program Manager will partner with project governance teams as well as PG&E governance teams to ensure the project stays compliant with processes and healthy with respect to project metrics. This role will be heavily focused on successful delivery of key projects and programs that focus on PG&E’s core billing & payment systems, regulatory rate products, meter data management, and billing operations. Additionally, the position involves participating in strategic and tactical technology planning to identify new projects & programs that will deliver immediate and long-term business value to PG&E.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $144,000
Bay Area Maximum: $244,000

The Expert IT Project Manager will be responsible for managing numerous complex programs/projects and/or novel assignments. Assignments are broad and highly complex, have major associated risks with high visibility, and can be sensitive or widely varied requiring expert judgment in applying and adapting project management techniques. Projects may span multiple lines of business and/or have significant dependencies on other major projects. These projects are one-time, multitask jobs that have clearly defined start and end dates, a specific scope of work, a budget, required resources, and a specified performance objective to be achieved.
