External Communications Manager – 12 Month Fixed Term

The Opportunity
Hinkley Point C (HPC) will be home to two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in Britain providing zero-carbon electricity for around six million homes. HPC is making a major contribution to the UK’s move to reduce carbon emissions.
We’re looking for a talented External Communications Manager on a temporary (12 month) basis to join the team and take the lead on communications projects across a wide range of topics and events.

What you’ll be doing
As the External Communications Manager you will help to deliver a strategic external communications plan aligned to the priorities of the construction project.
You will create compelling content across various external channels, build relationships with the media and collaborate closely with the business to identify and address HPC related issues. You will deliver media training to spokespeople and engage with responding agencies, taking a key role in issues management and emergency planning.
As someone with a keen interest in UK politics, you will communicate with members of parliament on a regular basis, building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships whilst conveying technical issues in a way that’s easy to understand.
Who you are
We are looking for somebody with a strong communications background, experience in media handling and a track record of delivering successful media and public affairs activities.
You will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, strong presentation and organisational skills and proven experience of working with confidential and politically sensitive information. With a background in either external or internal communications, public affairs, or journalism, you will demonstrate an innovative thinking approach.
