Posting Summary:
The purpose of the Student Life Ambassador program through the office of Graduate Student Life & Development (GSLD) at Teachers College is to provide TC students with connection, support, and resources during their graduate studies. Ambassadors will be a first point of contact for students as they start classes and beyond, by providing a friendly face for students to reach out to and by informing them of upcoming opportunities at TC & CU.Job Summary/Basic Function:
Each Student Life Ambassador will be responsible for mentoring a cohort of incoming TC students through:
- Biweekly emails detailing engagement opportunities, resources, grant deadlines, and general TC updates
- Weekly office hours that students can utilize to connect with their Ambassador
- Facilitation of three programs per semester
- Working shifts at the GSLD front desk
- Supporting GSLD events, including having a presence at Fall & Spring New Student Orientation and the Involvement Fair
Important Dates & Time Commitments:
- Application Deadline: July 12, 2023
- Interviews: May 22-23 & 30-31, 2023 | July 17-20, 2023
- Start Date & Training: August 21, 2023
- Fall New Student Orientation: Week of August 28th
- Spring New Student Orientation: January TBD
- Biweekly One-on-One Meetings with supervisor
- Biweekly Team Meetings (1 hour)
Benefits:
- $18 hourly, 15-17 hours/week
- 12 hours at the desk, 3+ hours doing programming, office hours, meetings, and other related work
- Personal and professional skill development including, but not limited to, experiences with mentorship, program planning, and community building
- One-on-one and team experiences with fellow student leaders & GSLD administratorsMinimum Qualifications:
- Must have been awarded federal work-study for the term in which a work-study position is being sought.
- Must be taking at least 6 credits (or equivalent, which includes full-time equivalent offerings - HBSK 6480, CCPJ 6480, CCPX 6480, or any 8900 course).
- Full-time TC employees are not eligible for this position.
- Must be able to abide by the Student Confidentiality Agreement.
- Must be able to abide by the Student Privacy Requirements.
- A minimum commitment of Fall and Spring semester is required so that the Student Life Ambassador can participate in, contribute to, and benefit from a full academic year of mentorship and programming.
- Previous related experiences or skills (e.g. public speaking, event planning, leadership or involvement on campus) in a similar position and/or transferable skills.
- Ability to effectively represent GSLD to student organizations, campus departments, and community agencies.
- Commitment to social justice, equity, and student developmentSalary Range:
$18/hr
