      Job Description

      Manulife’s Wealth and Asset Management (WAM) businesses operate across our global footprint in the US, Canada and Asia. They include our Retail (Manulife Investments, John Hancock Investments, and Asian mutual fund businesses), Retirement (Retirement Plan Services, Group Retirement Solutions, and Asian pension businesses), and Institutional (Manulife Investment Management) businesses.

      Accountability Statement:

      The WAM Accounting & Reporting team is primarily responsible for the ledger close process and the accounting, analysis, and financial reporting results of Manulife's Legal Entity Reporting (LER) subsidiaries. The LER team focuses on performing the legal entity controllership function for a growing number of subsidiaries, limited partnerships and equity accounted investments relating to alternative asset classes.

      Reporting to the Director, the incumbent is expected to perform analysis & reporting of subsidiaries financial statements, the preparation of board reports, perform regulatory reporting requirements, revenue & billing, and support the LER team on all external audit activities. Day to day activities will include:

      Key Accountabilities:

      • Lead the preparation of financial statements and disclosures for a number of subsidiaries

      • Lead the preparation of CFO and Board of Directors reporting packages on a quarterly basis

      • Preparation of all legal entity regulatory reporting requirements for US and Canadian subsidiaries, on a monthly and quarterly basis

      • Support financial analysis of product development initiatives

      • Oversight of financial statement preparation and coordination of annual external audits for US and Canadian subsidiaries

      • Revenue & billing for Private Markets

        • Monitor and review system-driven accrual and invoice process (both intercompany and third-party) – review responsibilities include:

          • New client setup through automated Excel templates

          • Modification of existing client static data, including GL attributes

          • AUM feeds for system import

          • AUM and fee templates, including fluctuation investigation

          • Review of fee calculations and invoice templates (where applicable) prior to system-driven distribution to clients

          • Client cash receipts

        • For manual clients and processes, perform detailed review of Excel-based invoice and journal entries

        • Monitor system-driven journal entry trending for accuracy and completeness

        • Review system-driven or manual client account reconciliations and aging; assist with investigation of breaks and outstanding receipts

        • Review/approve wire requests for routine and non-routine intercompany payments and third-party transactions

        • Review Source View reporting for accuracy; investigate irregularities with company-wide Finance teams

        • Implement controls and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures

      • Provide prompt and accurate service to setup and evaluate the financial reporting implications of new products and initiatives

      • Coordinate with teams and committees throughout the organization to onboard private market clients and products

      • Working with the team, assist in developing and implement processes and controls to support legal entity reporting. Also implement processes to ensure appropriate oversight and review is maintained on regulatory reporting

      • Work independently or with management to identify complex operational business issues

      • Develop solutions to automate existing manual processes within Global WAM

      • Prepare memos and supporting documentation for accounting policy changes and dividend projections and communicate to all partners

      • Lead meetings with business partners to analyze and document business processes and collect business requirements for new solutions

      Job Requirements

      • University Business Degree and working towards a CPA designation

      • General understanding of IFRS and US GAAP

      • One to two years of progressive experience in accounting, financial services and/or consulting firm with experience in the public and private investment management industry reporting would be an asset

      • Experience with financial reporting tools such as Essbase/Smart View would be an asset

      • Strong attention to detail and ability to learn

      • Well organized to meet tight deadlines, multi-task assignments and balance information needs with last minute changes or requests.

      • Ability to break down complex problems and offer practical solutions

      • High level of energy and initiative to perform in a fast paced and challenging environment

      • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

      • Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently with less supervision and establish priorities to meet deadlines

      • Advanced level of proficiency in MS Excel and other MS office tools (e.g. Word and PowerPoint to develop reports, documents and presentations)

      • Develop processes and reporting solutions to support complex products and meet the needs of sophisticated clients

      • Ability to act as a change agent and implement process improvement solutions through collaboration, effective communication, and influencing skills

      • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills both written and verbal

      Salary & Benefits

      The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

      Primary Location

      Toronto, Ontario

      Salary range is expected to be between

      $58,650.00 CAD - $97,750.00 CAD
