      Summary of Duties:

      The Fiscal Specialist 1 in Payroll Services is a full-time, classified position at Washington State University. This position works independently, under the general supervision of the Payroll Manager. The Fiscal Specialist will provide varied fiscal support functions to the payroll department. Additionally, the position reviews current procedures, problem-solves, and makes recommendations to improve service, procedures, communication, and accuracy.

      This position may be eligible for hybrid work.


      Required Qualifications:

      • Three years of fiscal record keeping experience; OR equivalent education/experience.

      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience with the WSU mainframe accounting systems (HEPPS, DEPPS, BALANCES, FACTS, ZZUSIS).

      • Possess good computer skills, specifically working in a Microsoft Windows environment with an emphasis on Word and Excel.

      • Experience in higher education.

      • Payroll experience is beneficial but not required. Training and professional development opportunities will be available.

      • Ability to pay attention to detail and work accurately with numbers.

      • Strong communication skills.

      Additional Information:

      This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

      Monthly Salary:

      $3,477 to $4,632 | Range 40 (Steps A - M) | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.

      In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
