      Job purpose

      Position will focus on new product development, product innovation, and product improvement for the retail and food service business units in accordance with the company’s business plan.

      Main Responsibilities

      • Responsible for the conceptualization, development, and evaluation of new products concepts centered around dehydrated potatoes for the Retail and Foodservice business units.
      • Identify new trends, technologies, processes, ingredients, and their applications to support the overall business plan.
      • Create gold standards for new concept and product development adhering to best practices.
      • Work with QA in developing specifications for new products and testing procedures for specification compliance.
      • Source and communicate with current vendors and suppliers and ensure specification compliance. Coordinate with vendors and internal teams as required.
      • Evaluate, monitor and update technical documentation, including specifications and formulas. Conduct training as necessary.
      • Working knowledge of food labeling laws with the ability to ensure product compliance with FDA laws and regulations. Review and monitor product labels and ensure accuracy.
      • Communicate with, answer inquiries and assist QA in resolving customer complaints associated with the value added business.
      • Knowledge of standard lab practices and procedures.
      • Good understanding of fundamental principles of food science and technology.

      Qualifications/Required Skills

      • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor in Food Science or like science such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, or food engineer (preferred) with experience (minimum 5 years preferred). Must have 2-5 years of experience in process and/or product development in the food industry. Strong knowledge of FDA laws and regulations governing the food industry, HACCP, and GMPs.
      • Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend, and compose instructions, correspondence, and memos in English. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Spanish language a plus.
      • Reasoning Ability: Possess good analytical, quantitative, communication, problem solving, and technical skills. Has the ability to creatively apply experience, common sense, and a strategic and economical business perspective to a variety of situations, processes and people. Can manage several projects concurrently. Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with efficiency and accuracy and work independently and professionally and in a team environment.
      • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have at least a beginning knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
      • Physical Demands: Individual must be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
