      Job Description:

      Algonquin College's Applied Research Office has launched the Research Development Institute (RDI) to support strategic applied research projects in collaboration with industry and community partners and to enhance the College's research capacity by engaging our faculty in these projects. An exciting opportunity is now available for the role of Project Manager at RDI.

      As a Project Manager, the incumbent is able to manage a large, multi-faceted, complex project. They are capable of managing expectations and stakeholder interests that span several areas across the College as well as areas outside of the College. The project managed by the Project Manager is transformational in nature. The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that best practices are undertaken and the benefits are being fully realized through the institution. The Project Manager will be responsible for defining the project requirements and is accountable for all project work during each process of the project lifecycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and close-out. In addition, they are responsible for key milestones for roll-out, change management and communications plan as well as training required within and outside the College, if required.

      The Project Manager is accountable for delivering the identified project objectives on time and within budget. The incumbent is responsible for closely monitoring the budget, the spending to date and the expected spending to ensure the project is delivered within budget. They are responsible for identifying, resourcing, and retaining project resource requirements and for managing the project work. The Project Manager is also responsible for identifying stakeholders and managing the stakeholder engagement

      The Project Manager works closely with the Director of Applied Research.

      Key Duties:

      Project Initiation and Delivery
      • Collaborates with College and project stakeholders to define project objectives and requirements and to complete all required project management documentation, i.e., project management plan, project scope documentation, project schedules, project budget, etc.
      • Organizes, manages, prioritizes and is accountable for all project deliverables.
      • Manages the team members’ completion of project work and manages and resolves resource allocation conflicts.
      • Ensures that the project objectives defined and delivered align with the strategic goals of the College.
      • Assesses and manages risks and issues in the context of the project and follows the appropriate escalation procedures, as required.
      • Ensures that project deliverables adhere to quality and customer service standards.
      • Ensures that all appropriate project deliverables adhere to an appropriate approval process.
      • Engages in contingency planning, as required, and recommends and implements solutions.
      • Maintains detailed project records of the life of the project and shares information as necessary.
      • Conducts regular status meetings as required to effectively and efficiently manage the project work and remain aligned with the project schedule.


      Stakeholder Management and Communication
      • Communicates project objectives, requirements, deliverables, dependencies, and timelines to the project stakeholders and team members.
      • Provides project progress updates to the appropriate organizational governance committees.
      • Keeps the key stakeholders aware of progress on each project.
      • Advises, escalates and provides solutions to issues and risks.
      • Ensures that the status reporting process is adhered to consistently.
      • Coordinates with and/or manages external resources and vendors, as required.

      Other Duties as Assigned

      Required Qualifications:

      • Minimum four (4) year degree in Science, Engineering, Business Administration or Public Administration or equivalent.

      • Minimum seven (7) years experience, with at least five (5) years of project management experience with a strong record of delivering quality project outcomes within the defined scope, time, and cost parameters.

      • Experience leading applied research projects.

      • Experience leading teams and managing deliverables in a matrix environment.

      • Experience working with and presenting to upper management and senior executives.

      • The following special skills and training are requirements for this position:

      • Research Administration experience;

      • Project/Program management demonstrated capability;

      • Excellent communication skills. Able to communicate well at varying levels of the College hierarchy;
