      Job summary

      An opportunity has arisen for a Support Medical Secretary to join our busy secretarial team within the Medical Division.

      You will be based within the Gastroenterology service working alongside a team of 8 medical secretaries and 2 support secretaries. The Gastroenterology service currently supports a substantial workforce of over 10 consultants and 7 Specialist Nurses.

      The suitable candidate should have good people skills and be able to prioritise their own workload. Experience of audio typing is desirable but not essential.

      Main duties of the job

      You will responsible for maintaining patients' records, processing incoming and outgoing correspondence, producing correspondence from audio/copy and dealing with telephone calls. In addition, you will liaise with Consultants, other Trust staff, and organisations outside of the department in order to resolve queries. You will have the ability to work under pressure, prioritise your workload and to deal with confidential and sensitive issues in a professional manner.

      Experience is desirable however not essential.

      Essential

      • AMSPAR Medical Terminology Certificate, or equivalent qualification/experience
      • RSA Level II word processing or equivalent
      • Experience of Audio-typing.
      • Experience of working in an administrative role.

      Desirable

      • Previous administrative experience working with in the NHS or medical environment

      Knowledge and Skills

      Essential

      • Good IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office
      • Good time management/organisational skills
      • Awareness of Trust guidelines regarding complaints, confidentiality etc

      Desirable

      • Ability to use own initiative and prioritise workload using organisational skills
