Job Title: General Maintenance/Apprentice Plumber
Exemption Status: Nonexempt/At- Will

Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of the district irrigation systems by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and irrigation fixtures districtwide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all irrigation systems and general district facilities. This position is responsible for assisting the Licensed Plumber Journeyman and the Master Plumber in maintenance of the Districts plumbing and heating systems.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Clear and valid Texas driver’s licenseAcceptable driving record
Some experience and/or training in the plumbing and heating trade preferred
Must obtain Texas State Board of Plumber’s Apprentice card
Working knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken
Meet the physical requirements of the position description
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
Knowledge of plumbing codes
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Backflow certified tester preferredExperience:
Minimum 3 years plumbing experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
1. Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and irrigation fixtures according to specifications and plumbing codes.
2. Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures. Determine sources of irrigation malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
3. Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and other sprinkler system equipment
4. Receive and complete work orders. Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
5. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
6. Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
7. Respond to emergency calls as needed.
8. Must be able to drive and maintain an acceptable driving record due to insurance requirements regarding the use of district vehicles.
9. Performs other general maintenance job-related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Maintenance, Assistant Director of Maintenance or designee.
Safety
10. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
11. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
12. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
13. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
