- Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.
- Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
- Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
- Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.
- Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
- Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
- Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with
specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. - Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mail box supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves
equipment/tools, materials and products. - Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.
- Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure
construction materials meet Department specifications. - May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.
- Trains other employees.
- Conducts tests of highway construction materials, makes calculations, and records results.
- Reviews proposed construction plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E) and supporting documents for accuracy and
completeness to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, policies, procedures, and design guidelines. - Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License or have obtained a CDL "A” License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.

- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
- Please note that the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, at 40.151(e) – does not authorize “medical marijuana” under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position.
- Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
- Driver's record check will be conducted by the Department. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving state or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.
- Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.
- Required to work weekends and holidays.
- Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
