What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Collaborate with NWFSC staff to identify and prioritize datasets and research products for public availability
- Develop new decision support tools, including web maps and dashboards, and provide training on their use
- Collect and plan AUV missions at sea to enhance habitat information during NOAA vessel cruises
- Create and manage datasets, databases, and map services compliant with NOAA/NMFS IT policies
- Author documentation such as metadata and SOPs for each dataset and tool
What is Required (Qualifications):
- An undergraduate degree in computer science, informatics, geography, or a related field, or outstanding GIS and programming credentials
- Experience in GIS, particularly with ArcGIS software
- Proficiency in R, Python, and SQL programming languages
- Experience in data management and database design
- Willingness to travel to various NWFSC locations and participate in NOAA vessel research cruises, with 30 days at sea anticipated
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Formal coursework in Database Design, Data Modeling, GIS, and Computer Programming
- Experience in developing tools for data-driven decision making
