      Are you ready to be at the forefront of medical innovation? We are looking for a Global Medical Head to lead a team of medical professionals in our Biopharmaceuticals Business Unit. This is a critical strategic leadership position, where you will use your unique medical expertise and insights from markets, healthcare professionals, patients and health systems to develop world-class medical strategies for AstraZeneca medicines and market-shaping teams, globally. You will be a key member of the Global Medical Team (GMT) within a specific brand and/or disease area, acting as a strategic partner and leader across the medical enterprise, R&D and commercial functions.       As a Global Medical Head, you will shape product and disease area strategy, build our capability, drive product launches and life cycle management, provide strategic direction for evidence generation, education and publication, and engage extensively externally to further the scientific leadership of AZ. It is a critical strategic leadership position that reports directly to the therapeutic area VP Medical Affairs. You will be a member of the therapeutic area BPM leadership team, as well as global product/brand teams and will lead a team of medical professionals. You will be expected to develop a strong network with regions and countries and will have the ability to pair your own unique medical expertise with insight from markets, healthcare professionals, patients and health systems, to develop and execute world-class medical strategies, globally. Through your leadership, you will help build a world-class obesity capability within AstraZeneca and in doing so enable outstanding product launches, practice-defining clinical studies, generation of real-world evidence, transformation of health systems and, ultimately, acceleration of population health.

      Accountabilities:

      • Enterprise Leadership : Builds and leads the global medical brand and/or disease area team, partnering with key stakeholders internally and externally

      • Strategic Vision and Direction: Accountable for the development, integration, and implementation of strategic medical plans at a global level

      • External Scientific Engagement: Credibly sets and drives an ambitious external engagement agenda, forming strategic alliances and partnerships that can shape healthcare and best practices in the therapy area

      • Launch, Performance and Life-cycle Management: Drives innovation and sets key performance indicators (KPIs) to shape disease state understanding, surface new opportunities, and deliver strategic medical plans that are competitive for current and future needs

      Essential skills/experience:

      • Doctoral level degree (MD, PhD, and/or PharmD)

      • 7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally in Medical Affairs, working at the country and global/regional level

      • Experienced team leader at a global/regional level, with a track record of establishing high performance teams

      • Demonstrated track record delivering results in a complex matrix environment, building capabilities, and leading large scale impactful medical initiatives

      • Strong analytical mind-set and ability to quickly assess large amounts of information and distil into key messages and actions

      • Proven ability to build internal and external networks and to collaborate across geographies and cultures; enterprise leader mindset

      • Significant experience presenting to senior leadership; persuasive oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver executive presentations

      • Understanding of the complex and evolving Medical space, including both existing stakeholders and future trends
