Job Overview
Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for a remote Global Patient Services Coordinator reporting into our Corporate Headquarters location. Responsibilities
Coordinator manages and/or supervises Specialists for all aspects of the international patient referral and acceptance program. This includes ensuring complete medical files, consents, and other information for evaluation and all activities for patients after they have been clinically accepted and prior to their arrival in the United States. They are responsible for successful patient passport and US visa applications and/or humanitarian parole requests, including developing medical justifications to satisfy US Consular Service and Dept. of Homeland Security legal requirements. Coordinators also identify and coordinate with external organizations and governments for non-medical expense sponsorship. - 30% Coordinator works closely with key employees at all levels at SHC locations, including those in intake, care pre-admission testing, care management, resource navigation, and social work as well as Administrators & Chiefs, to facilitate care planning, patient acceptance & Board of Governors’ approvals. - 20% Coordinator leads the acute patient referral program during on-call rotations. As leads, they determine best-fit Shriner hospitals based on patient condition and bed availability, prepare medical cases in English for accepting clinical teams, establish and facilitate doctor-to-doctor communication (interpreting, as appropriate), negotiate transportation timing, crews, equipment, and quotations with air ambulance providers, manage humanitarian parole and consent processes, and find/confirm financial sponsorships for transportation expenses. Manages documentation and reporting accuracy and invoice/payment routing. - 20% Coordinator prepares international patient care plans, guides physicians and care managers on determining appropriate and necessary testing, exams, clinical clearances and imaging prior to patient arrival.clearances and imaging prior to patient arrival. - 15% Coordinator is responsible for planning HQ-managed international outreach clinics held in assigned regions. This includes patient selection, medical record compilation, and collaboration with host organizations as well as arranging research, training and education initiatives. -15%Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have 7 years of experience working in a professional healthcare setting. 3 years of case management experience within healthcare is preferred. Proficiency in medical terminology is required and critical for this role. Verbal and written fluency in English and at least one additional language is required. Proficiency in MS Office is required. Key skills for this position include a strong customer service philosophy; excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills. Current Bachelor's Degree in related field, or equivalent experience, is required. Interpreters certification is preferred but not required.
