Job summary
GP Assistant is a fairly new role developed in Primary Care setting. The person selected will work closely with the GPs in assiting with administrative documentation as well as dealing with patients on a daily basis, so ideally some experience of a clinical setting would be beneficial.
Main duties of the job
After initial training, the role will include, but not be limited to: Phlebotomy and ECGs;DWP/PIP/Insurance forms;History and basic observation eg BP checks;Care plan review eg Dementia reviews;Referral support to Secondary Care;Quality Improvements and Quality Outcome Framework (QOF) support;Filling normal blood results;Home visit & care home reviews;Contacting patients who decline screening.;Prediabetes review and referral;Weight management review;Refugee health checks;Ear wax treatment
About us
We have a wonderful team of 2 partners,3 salaried GP`s and a fantastic nursing team who will also support you. We have a Clinical pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician alongside a dedicated Reception and administrative team of 13 personnel. We are located in the Forest of Dean in a relatively new purpose built Medical Centre co-located with another GP Practice. The is a large car park for staff and patients alike and we are located next to a local Co-op store as well as a short trip to the centre of Cinderford itself.
The team meets regularly to maintain good communications and we operate an open door policy to managemnt.

Job responsibilities
Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy.
Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
Support the GP with immunisations/wound care.
