      Job summary

      Pendle East PCN are looking to recruit a full time innovative GP Assistant who will be deployed to work, and be based in a GP surgery that forms part of our PCN. This is an exciting new role that is designed to support our GPs with the smooth running of clinics whilst supporting the Management Team. GP Assistants will be trained to undertake routine clinical observations and administrative tasks on behalf of the GP which will free up GP time to focus on patients and improve the patient experience.

      Main duties of the job

      The main responsibilities and duties of the GP Assistant role will be tailored based on level of skill and experience, but will include, some but not all:

      • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients
      • Completing simple clinical observations /investigations as directed locally, such as dipstick urine.
      • Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
      • Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
      • Sorting clinical post and prioritising for the GP. Signposting some post to other members of staff.
      • Extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding; adding this to patient notes. Supporting with QOF and IIF reviews.
      • Completing requests for safeguarding information to other agencies
      • Signposting e-Consult / online patients requests to the most appropriate person
      • Filing blood results as per GP Practice protocol
      • Completing audits as and when required by the surgery
      • Assisting with Call/Recall for QOF, NHS health checks etc
      • IT troubleshooting and problem solving, support Practice with induction of new computer systems
      • Supporting the Management Team with reviewing and updating Practice Policies
      • Supporting Clinical team with administrative duties; stock & ordering, equipment checks
      • Any other business as directed by the Practice Manager

      About us

      We are excited to be recruiting a GP Assistant to be part of Pendle East Primary Care Network (PCN), which is a collaboration of 5 GP Practices within the Lancashire/Yorkshire border who collectively care for over 47,000 patients. The PCN member practices are located at 4 sites: 2 GP Practices within a large modern purpose-built building and 3 GP Practices a short drive away. The PCN is determined to meet the challenges of modern primary care by working innovatively and growing our multi-disciplinary team to provide a holistic approach to our patient population. The PCN team already includes; Social Prescribing Link Workers, Health & Wellbeing Coaches, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Paramedics, Mental Health Practitioners, Physician Associates and Care Coordinators.
