      Description

      GRADUATE ASSISTANT
      University of Hawaii, Manoa, School of Medicine – Department of Surgery
      Temporary, 0.50 FTE, 11-month
      Tto begin approximately 5/15/2024; renewal subject to funding availability, performance, and/or need; pending position clearance and availability of funds.

      Duties:

      • Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) in conducting research to study virtual reality applications in neurosurgery
      • Collaborates on ongoing investigations concerning computer-based placement of external ventricular drains during neurosurgery
      • Assist in the derivation of algorithms aimed at tracking catheter placements, registration of medical images, automated alignment of face and internal brain structures, use of virtual reality equipment, maintenance of code, organization, collection and analysis of data; stay up-to-date on relevant scientific literature; write scientific reports; present scientific work; routine lab maintenance.
      • Other duties as assigned.
      Minimum qualifications:
      • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related field.
      • Must be in good standing in UH Manoa Information and Computing Science or related graduate programs.
      • Should be organized and able to work independently.
      • Must be able to work well with people.
      • Ability to work in laboratory setting and perform basic biomedical and AI and VR computer-based programing and experimentation.
      Desirable qualifications:
      • Prior computer science research experience.
